can someone please explain to me in layman's terms what the difference between non-biological and biological laundry powder is. thank you. :)

Biological laundry powder contains enzymes whereas non-biological laundry powder does not. The purpose of the enzymes is to break down the protein, carbohydrates and fat (food substances) which may be contained in dirt and stains present on clothing to be laundered.

Quite a number of people are allergic to biological detergents - my husband is one of them. A towel washed with that stuff would cause a nasty rash allover his body.

i haven't seen any marketing for it hence not knowing what the difference is. although i think the allergy reason makes sense as i remember people recommending it to wash newborn baby's clothing.

Tide is ok.
The best for allergies as far as we have found is Dreft, which is formulated for babies. Works just fine on adult clothes too. They sell it at Gateway. It isn't that cheap but it is extremely concentrated so the bottle lasts seemingly forever. In our machine, a teaspoon is enough for a full load, and that's both pre- and main- wash.
On a side note, I hate laundry powder. Makes a mess.

We use Persil non biological powder/tablets. When traveling my husband takes his own towels as he had some bad experiences in several hotels.
