I'm going to stay in Hong Kong for several months (from december 1st), so I'm looking for a serviced apartment to stay during the first month. Before you put the link to the serviced apartments form in this website :-P, I've already been there. What I need are experiences from people that have stayed at cheap serviced apartments. For example, these are the responses I got from the request from:
FS HK: 29,800, 422 s.f. (WTH?? TOO expensive)
GSM: 24,800-33,500, 503 s.f. (too expensive)
Harbour Plaza North Point: 21,000, 301 s.f. (too expensive)
Luard on the Park: 17,200, 320 s.f. (too expensive)
the harmonium: 16,500, 320 s.f. (expensive)
Olympic Terrace Suites: 15,888, 1 bedroom (expensive)
abeo: 14,500, 300 s.f. (expensive)
Excellent Court: 16,300-19,200, 420 s.f. (expensive)
Harmony Mansion: 13,800, 343 s.f. (a bit expensive)
City Loft: 13,000, 330 s.f. (a bit expensive)
De Fenwick: 14,000, 410 s.f. (a bit expensive)
Yesinspace: 10,980, 350 s.f. (ok)
The Lodge: 10500-12800, 450 s.f. (quite interesting)
So I'm most interested in City Loft, De Fenwick, Yesinspace or The Lodge. Has anyone been in any of those?
Thanks
PS: Of course, if anyone knows about other places at similar prices, please let me know :)

That sounds great, and the price for one month (starting at 6800) is very tempting... but it's a bit far from the City University. How long (approximately) does it take to get to Kowloon Tong from Horizon Suite Hotel? Google maps says 17 minutes by car, but I won't rent a car during my stay.

Horizon suite hotel in Ma On Shan to Kowloon Tong City University takes approx. 30mins.
Hotel is located out by the sea with fresh air. They have inclusive shuttle bus to Shatin and Diamond Hill as well as shuttle bus to Tsim Sha Tsui for a small fee ($10).
However, they are often very fully booked. Staying for one month is going to work out expensive however, if you sign a 12 month contract it works out better.
They also have new hotel suites in Hung Hom starting from $9,990 per month.

It looks great (>60m2 for 10K), but it has the same problem as the other Horizon hotel: they don't have an email!! I can't believe the only way to contact them is by phone. I don't want to make calls to Hong Kong, FFS.
So I'll get one I can book by email or by web for the first month and once I'm there I'll go take a look at both Horizon hotels.
Nobody has stayed at one of the apartmens I've listed? :(
(Another option that I've received today: Circle Apartment in Wanchai, 16,500 for 500 s.f., a bit expensive)

There are some daily flat rentals including shared flats on the left. Have you tried looking at those. I know of a few on Hong Kong Island that cost under HK$10000. PM me if interested.
By the way thanks for compiling the list.

A lot of "studios" are just a bedroom with ensuite facilities, and a microwave oven. So you may wish to ask what is the liveable area, excluding parking, corridor etc, and not go along with the measurements on their brochures. (Yes, a friend was caught out when she found out that shared corridor space was included in her apartment's area.)
City University has short term housing - why don't you try them first?

I prefer going to a serviced apartment for the first month and, once I'm in HK, looking for a cheaper place. Thanks anyway, maybe I'll contact you for the next 5 months (january-may) when I'm there.
> My relative told me about BayView Park Chai Wan. 1 Block from MTR.
> View the "Virtual Show Flats".
Thanks, it looks interesting for the months 2-6. I can't rent it for 1 month, so I still need a place for december.

And thanks for the warning :). I'll ask by email to make sure the space is actually livable space.
I could try in the CityU, but I was told that very early booking was required. Since I'm not even a student there (yet) and I'll probably go in december, I'm afraid I'll need to look for another place.

I know a cheap serviced apartment in Kowloon Tong. They are quite old, have no facilities, but they are clean and the people are very good. The kitchen facilities are very basic, but it would be enough to get you by.
It's called Tsun Ning Court and it's walking distance to Kowloon Tong MTR/KCR. Rebecca is the agent we use. They are negotiable as to the length of stay, and I think it's around 6-7K a month. The link to the site is http://www.tsunningcourt.com/
My family stay there all the time when they visit, as it's in very close proximity to where we live and we think why pay heaps of money at a hotel when they are with us most of the day. It is also very quiet and there are many size rooms to choose from. It's across the road from Kowloon Tsai Park which has a great pool.

Hi, we're looking at relocating to HK in Feb '09. If working in Shatin, where is the convenient & recommended place to stay? We're looking at something like a studio or 1-bedroom apartment that costs below HK$10,000 per month. Scouted thru the net around Ma On Shan area but can't find much info.
Would prefer something like One New York in Kowloon. The link to the site is http://www.sino-leasing.com/v4/residential_sect_en.asp?sect=intro&id=131
Dun they have any apt like this in New Territory?
