Kindergarten in kowloon

Hi,

I just need some opinion when choosing a kindergarten.

I go by the location first, thinking of the travelling expense I have to include in our monthly budget

I am in between 4 schools where I plan to enroll my son to.

The first school is the same one I went to. Though, it's in YMT. We live in Jordan so my son and helper will have to use the MTR.

English as the first language and Cantonese as the second language.

tuition fee/month= around 1650

2nd school: is where my nephews went to. Also located in YMT but in walking distance (prolly around 15-20 mins walk)

English as the first language, they also teach mandarin in their extra-curricular classes

tuition fee/month= around 1390

3rd school: it's just across our street. though speaking medium there is in Chinese. they do have only 1 lesson in english which is of course english.

tuition fee/month= around 1890

4th school: just 5 mins walk fr home. english teaching as well.

tuition fee/month= around 1250

given these differences, I can't make up my mind . also, i wish to plan this earlier so when time comes for enrollment, we wouldn't have to rush to our decisions.

kindly share your thoughts on this.

though location should be a consideration, i agre with cara that there are other more important factors than that when choosing a school.

first and foremost i feel is their teaching method, teacher-student ratio, teaching medium, and curriculum.

since you expect your children to gain something from attending kidnergarten, you'd want to know what, how and who are teaching ur child.

hi,

i may have forgot to mention that the education quality/ school security are almost alike. i have no issues with those.

only with the ones i have mentioned above.

honestly, most important is what primary school you are aiming at (or you might not care as you won't stay in HK that long) but if you plan to have your child attend primary school in HK, local or int'l ? Then the kindergarten you choose must be the one that is "well connected" and high percentage of graduates accepted to the primary school of your choice.

For example: top kindergartens in Kowloon are no doubt all in Kowloon Tong. Depending on which primary school you are aiming, then the kindergarten choice changes.

as much as I agree with your posts Cara, this one I will disagree to.

It really does depend on the school of target whether local stream or int'l. Either way, your kindergarten's name, reputation and curriculum has a definite effect on the chance for your child is accepted in the primary school.

For example: CCKG is the top kindergarten for girls, if you want to get into the top girls' school of HK, DGJS. They took 1 class full from CCKG for Primary 1 admission, and the other two classes are made up of OTHER kindergartens. Mainly, St Cat',s Kentville, and other miscellaneous.

For ESF Schools: chances are higher if your child did attend an international kindy, as opposed to choosing Kentville, and then try to get into ESF schools. Anfield, Kingston, Tutor Time, St Cat.... have a much higher chance.

just an example.

Lucky for you Cara, but not everyone has the same path and luck.
