I`m moving to HK next week with my husband and baby. We also need to move our belongings. We don`t have any furniture, only bags and boxes. My husband was quoted $20,000hkd from a transportation company who also said it would take them 4 days. I think this is excessive, on both counts. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Sorry, I forgot to say that I was moving from Shenzhen only. :) That`s why I think it`s all too much.

Very expensive. I used a local HK transport company to deliver furniture from a factory in SZ (Baoan) to HK - desks, chairs, desk screens, etc, etc and they charged by the kilo - think it was around $750 all in.

keep in mind there are varying levels of service among movers....we used a mover who charged 1500, but we had to box everything and at the destination (HK Island to Tseung Kwan O) we had to unpack everything and arrange the furniture....a friend used a mover who charged 5K but did EVERYTHING for a move of about 5 mins drive....
you need to tell the movers what you are willing to do...

Yes, but this is cross-border. not as easy as within HK. we are ideally looking for a minivan to cross the border from A to B, carry the stuff, and we will do everything else. No furniture, only boxes and bags.

then that's what you need to tell the movers who are giving you quotes...if you did and you still got a quote of 20K, you are getting ripped off...like evildeeds says, should be in the hundreds, not thousands

Evildeeds meant US$ surely. There`s no way it would cost 750rmb to transport furniture across the border.

Try www.targetstorage.com.hk. Saw their web site, and perhaps may be able to help with their residential ad office moving services.

No, I meant HK$. We used an HK company who do this daily.

So $750 HKD is expensive? I would be happy to pay that. Can you give me the details of that company?
Please support our advertisers:
i think he meant YOUR 20k quote was expensive, since he only paid 750...

Hehe, this is getting very he-said she-said.
