Can anyone give the number of a reliable company to get rid of cockroaches?

I've tried the eco-friendly company and it doesn't seem to have worked very thoroughly.

I've tried calling Rentokill but they never pick up the phone and haven't returned my messages.

Am desperate - please help!

While you wait, go to the grocery store and pick up some "Combat" or similar roach traps. They work well.

For the eco-friendly one, you have to be thorough and do 2-3 applications before the cockroaches go away.

About 1 year ago I had a cough and got up in the middle of the night for a glass of water, I was horrified to discover literally TWENTY cockroaches of various sizes crawling over my kitchen surfaces & in the cupboards ... before that night I had no idea!! I sprayed the whole kichen several times with Biokill over a period of weeks and they've never been back. You have to spray absolutely every surface so that there is no area for them to go on. The walls, doors, floors, cupboard doors, the bin ....

The hardest one is the living room, we usually get 1-2 per night in there, but I don't want to spray Biokill all over my painted walls, as it looks unslightly when the drips of Biokill dry up on paint. And anyway, even if i did do the walls, I couldn't spray it on my furniture.

But if ever you are up in the night with a cough / come home late - it's worth having a look round and then you can find out where in your house the trouble spots are!

Another thing you can do is decrease the food supply for the bugs. Go through the pantry and swap out all the containers for plastic ones. For example, the paper in a flour package will not stop ants, cockroaches and so forth. If nothing else there is always leakage. Same with sugar, nuts, rice, cous-cous, spices, etc... Go to Japan Home or similar and get a whole bunch of plastic containers. This didn't solve our ant problem completely but it certainly decreased the number of ants by 90%. If you have an open sugar dish for coffee, you can put it in the dridge.

Thanks so much for all your replies.

I know that for every one you see there are many you don't see - that's why I want some professionals to come and blitz the place.

Axptguy38 - I bought a load of plastic containers from Japan Home Store a couple of years ago. We used them to store dried pasta etc (as you suggest). The trouble is, those little flour bug things (don't know their official name) can already be in your sealed pasta when you buy it from the shop. So we had lovely clear plastic containers and we could see the bugs happily going about their business! Now I try to have only one or two bags of pasta on the go at a time - leave it in the plastic bag it comes in and close it securely with a bulldog clip.

Anyway, back to the point - a company is coming on Monday so fingers crossed. Thanks for the number .....

sorry, but what do you do with all the food (since everything cannot go into plastic boxes) while cleaning and spraying all around, especially in the kitchen?? or even near the fridge?

Near the fridge is no problem as long as the fridge is closed. And yes, pretty much everything can go in plastic boxes. ;)

Then again, we don't spray. We just use the traps. We also make sure we clean the floor and counters daily to avoid any spills lying around.

unfortunately they seem to enter inside the fridge as well :(

which is why I was wondering whether 'professionals' would be of better help (on top of the regular things like traps, cleaning etc...)

That's odd. All I can think of is that they piggybacked on some container or plastic bag.

10, when I lived somewhere infested with cockroaches I found the traps worked very well. They're pretty revolting though.

If you're finding that you have bugs in your pasta when you buy it (this is something I've never come across!) try putting a couple of bay leaves in the pasta bag. This certainly works with the weavils that come in rice, so may work with pasta too.

I was in a service apartment for a few weeks, and a cocroach went running across the floow. I chased the horrible thing around the apartment for 5 minutes and managed to cover it with a cup and then went off to work, figuring it would be dead when I get back and I could throw it away.

Anyway, I forgot the apartment got cleaned on that day and the cup was back in the cupboard. Must have given the cleaner a heart attack!

All the same, I think they deserve to die a horrible death. Horrible things.

Cockroaches are incredibly hardy. If you rip the head off they will die of starvation. Covering it with a cup does not do a lot of good.

I spray baygon behind the fridge and the washing machine. All other traps and sprays are useless and a waste of money.

I also opened the false ceiling because these are good hiding places.

Then all the dead bodies will appear in the next few day.

I keep pasta and flour in the fridge. If they were already in there before they leave the supermart, then it will be stopped by the time they reached my fridge.

It works.

There's a VERY USEFUL cockroach bait that you can buy from a supermarket in hk, but not parkn'shop or welcome, because they don't sell. This bait is very cheap, but very useful. Once you put some on the floor, you'll no longer see the cockroaches. I've just bought 3 boxes myself. Each box costs only $25. However, they don't have english name, so you may not find it easily. Perhaps I can help, if you want to know more details, you can email me at hugoashley@gmail.com

Does it matter if you are on G/F or up higher in a building? We are planning to move from a well maintained 5/F unit to a G/F unit in a different area of HK Island. We have no roach issues here at all, but I am concerned about them coming in on G/F. Any experience/advice for G/F?

In countries / cities with warm / humind climate, refrain from staying on GF. These good friends are hibernating and once the temperature gets warmer, they will come and find you. What's the point of spraying every corner because it's not healthy for the people living inside anyway.
