Netvigator Blocking Sending Emails

ORIGINAL POST
Posted by devster 15 yrs ago
Here is the stuation. I have a netmail plus account using a smtp server (ndsmtp@netxxx.com) for sending emails. When I am overseas or connected to SOME other ISPs I cannot send email from outlook. I can receive fine. I believe Netvigator blocks port 25 (thats all my tech knowledge!).

Does anyone know how to bypass/enable me to send email (without using gmail etc) from all other ISPs ?? Netvigator support is rubbish

Cheers

Hi devster,

You have mentioned that gmail is not a preferred option. I believe they provide an email masquerading option. The process is to provide the desired email address (ndsmtp@netxxx.com) that you wish gmail to transport email on its behalf. I think gmail will then send a verification link to the mailbox of the email address. Once activated, you should be able to use gmail to send email under the email address.

Cheers.

I use gmail when I am away from Hong Kong and have it configured to both check and send from my netvigator account. Unfortunately it does not have 'read receipt' ability and I prefer the functionality of Outlook. I want to send from within Outlook and need to find how to send from this program whilst connected to other ISPs.

Thanks for your help

Many, even most, ISPs block port 25 unless you use the ISPs own SMTP server. It's a defense against someone using the account to send spam. That's why you can't send email.

Unfortunately, and unlike most email services, Netmail Plus does not provide an option to use an alternate port. Shame on them. In general, I avoid using any PCCW "added value" service since they are of poor quality, as this example bears out.

Since you already have gmail, the easiest solution is to use Outlook for your gmail. That will work anywhere since it uses port 587 for sending. To set it up, open gmail and go to settings, then "Forwarding and POP/IMAP".

What you can do is hire an external authenticated smtp server: www.travelsmtp.com -> their smtp server works on every network, no matter where you are and runs on a different tcp port so its not getting blocked by internet providers. Cost only 19,95 per year, no more headaches, no more webmail, no more multiple e-mail accounts, no more blocked e-mails...
