Time for braces. Can anyone recommend an orthodontist with reasonable rates/flexible terms and quality work? Given my experience thus far on cost, I bet a lot of people travel to Shenzhen. Prince Philip Dental Hospital is a good alternative but the waiting list for braces is more than a year.

I recently learned that here is among the most difficult places to become a licensed orthodontist. There appears to be only 60 qualified in all of HK. Hence, the supply in demand re pricing, often around 60,000 for standard braces. Many people opt for Shenzhen or even the Philippines. However, the doctors here are quick to tell you the downside (risk!) for using less qualified professionals. They suggest waiting, even if it means years. However, for parents under a financial squeeze who do not want their children to be burdened with uneven teeth for years to come, perhaps leaving the border is a viable option. Of course, we should obtain references and confirm qualifications.

You might be saving some money by having it done in Shenzhen but remember that
there is a good chance that the wiring in the braces might break. Hence, the child has a wire that is poking his mouth. You want a good orthodontist that is available for such an emergency.
You will also have monthly appointments to adjust the braces.
Dr. Ling came highly recommended.
He is very professional and passionate about what he does.
He doesn't seem at all concerned about the money.
Good luck.

I had mine done 8,9 years ago for $30000. The ortho was in Central and he had many patients -- that means i had to wait 30 mins everytime and he only spent 3 minutes on me. Half of the work was done by the nurse. It took me 5 years to finish. do some research before you choose your ortho as you are required to sign a contract when you start.
