Hello!
My wife and I are moving back to HK mid-August for a few years, and my wife would like to join a dragon boat team. She was a competitive paddler for years (including war canoe), competing at the national level in Canada. She has previous experience with dragon boat racing as well.
Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

She can join the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's dragon boat team, called Royal X Women. They perform pretty well in the races and are both serious and very sociable. You don't need to be a member of the yacht club as well.
If you're interested, you can send me a message and I'll dig up a contact for your wife.

Regarding the two clubs suggested by Ed, the HK Island Paddle Club are SUPER SERIOUS. Your wife will undergo vigorous testing and training in order to be on the team.
HK Outriggers is where you will find a lot of the Royal X team members and the organiser. They're still serious - the X Men won the event last year - but not as serious as Island Paddle... If you join up with the HK Outriggers, you can also meet people who are part of other dragon boat teams if you wanted to choose another team.

Why doesn't HK Expat sponsor a Dragon Boat team?

We've invested most of our event sponsorship budget in the SEVENS after party this year so don't have budget for the Dragon Boats unfortunately.

Hello all,
Our team is looking for ladies to join our dragon boat team. We train on the water in Tai Po on Sundays with occasional land training on machines (optional). We’ll be racing this June in Tai Po and Stanley. No experience required, just bring your desire to learn and dedication to train. Instruction given in English, Cantonese and Mandarin as needed. All are welcome – we are ages 20-40’s. Come join the fun, get fit, get out on the water and enjoy a very Hong Kong sport!
