HK Bank Account while living outside HK

Hello.

We are looking to leave HK (perhaps for good) in a few months. However, we would like to keep our bank accounts active here. Is this possible to do? We are non-permanent residents and have HSBC accounts. Is it possible to tie the accounts to our address in the US, or to a HK PO box? Are there any banks that are more favorable than HSBC for non-HK residents?

Eventually I will make my way to the bank to figure all this out - but figured I could get more expedited information with possible alternative solutions here.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We're also non-pemanent residents in HK and will be leaving HK later this year. Last week we had an appointment at HSBC where we asked them the same question as you got and they said we can keep your account with them regardless of where you're moving. You can still manage your account over the internet, telephone or if you're moving to a place where theay have a branch you can use them.

Thanks, Asta. I´m sure they need a postal address, yes? Do you just use your new one?

Yes, we'll just use our new address. They didn't seem to think it was a problem at all and said that a lot of people keep their accounts when moving overseas.

definately you can - we have accounts in uk, usa and HK (all previous places we have lived) and we live in Singapore. Problem comes when they start putting in place additional security for internet transactions like needing a mobile phone to send you an additional login pin. I think with HSBC they still use that little number generator device so still ok currently. And yes give them your new address or your statements will get returned to them and then they freeze your account.
