Hi All, I'm new to HK and looking to buy an LCD TV to replace the one I sold in Australia (1.5yr old Samsung Series 7 LCD 100hz, 46"). Wandering around Fortress et al, they all seem to be a bit more expensive than back in Aus.
Any idea where I can get a cheap Samsung or Sony 100hz-200hz 1080p 106cm or >?
If there's a great buy in a local Chinese brand with similar specs (Hisense, TCL, etc) I'm also up for that. Cheers!

I can think of three places.
AV Life in Times Square.
Yau Shing Commercial Center, on the left coming out of exit E2, Mong Kok MTR. Opposite the Bank Centre. It has has several floors of electronics stores.
Narita Audio & Video
G/G, 248 Yu Chau Street
Sham Shui Po

Hi axptguy38, much appreciated. I'll check out AV Life tonight and visit Yau Shing and Narita soon. What did you end up buying yourself?

If you don't mind used, there are many cheap buys in the classified ads here. You should be able to get a 40" LCD from a name brand for around $11k these days. Good luck.

Hehe. Well, we bought at Fortress. It was the first week in HK so didn't have our bearings yet. Also buying EVERYTHING from iron to TV they gave they us a nice discount. We came from the US so had nothing in the right voltage range.
Fortress can be a good deal if you ask the guys what's on special. There's always some name brand that is trying to flog some extra kit that month.

Of the large chains, I always find that Gome will bargain the most. But for TVs I'd rather use a specialist like AV Life. They have the most choices and their installation is pretty experienced (for those that hang their TVs on the wall).
As for local Chinese brands - their quality is still not up to the level of Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Pioneer.

Agreed with Mr. Cheese on the brands. I would add LG to that list. Perhaps not quite Sony but the price point tends to be pretty good.
