In fact there are 2 weather stations on Lantau, the airport in north Lantau which provides the most realistic reading and Ngong Ping which is high up a mountain - not representative of the lowland area where most people live.


Normal rule of thumb is Lantau is at least 2 degress hotter than observatory general reading for Hong Kong. For a more realistic reading always go with the forecast for Macau. - works for Typhoon warning signals as well!


(dont know if this applies to discovery Bay. This information is based on areas in South Lantau from Mui Wo going west)

the weather station on Lantau is at Ngong Ping, at 500+ m above sea level...that might be a reason...it's often cool, breezy and misty up there...

The Peak is indeed cooler than Central. That's why all the rich moved there back before air conditioning, and incidentally why the Peak Tram was built. The downside is that it becomes very foggy and damp in winter.


South Side tends to be cooler than around the harbour since there is a bit more wind, but it is not a huge difference.
