Tourist Visa for former domestic helper from Philippines

I have heard varying stories regarding difficulty in getting a tourist visa to hong kong for filipinas once they have ceased their employment as a domestic helper here.

I am an american here on a tourist visa. My girlfiend has terminated her employment here as a domestic helper, her last day of employment will be November 22, 2010. Then she will return to Philippines.

We plan to have her return here for xmas and new year for about 12 days. By way of background she has had a lease on an apartment here for past 5 months and still retain it. Also she has hong kong bank accounts with more than sufficient funds to support her stay.

I am wondering if she might encounter any issues or problems when she arrives back here last week of december. If so, could anyone advise us what they might be and how best to prepare in advance to overcome them.

Thank you for any replies, suggestions, or eperiences you care to share.

Yes there is but if she can justify why she is coming back then I think it would be fine I can say this because it happened to some of my relatives previous employed as a domestic either terminated or for good then when they try to come back they are questioned and being hold at the port of entry but then if they give a convencing answer like why you come back, where you will stay and can show some money to cover her expenses and if there is such a person or relative who she can refer to much better. She can provide the name and address and specially a telephone number in case the immigration officer will really dare to call and enquire because it happened to me . Then if she can convince that she just come back because you were here to spend her Xmas with you. If she can provide your name and tel no. to the officer in case they really want to know if she's telling the truth then there will be a big chance that she can come in again as tourist.

Good luck to both of you.

even though i am on a tourist visa from usa myself, will a support letter have any value to immigration from me?

since september she has had her own apartment here with receipts showing rent is paid on time each month. she still has and intends to maintain lease, the rent for moth of december will already be paid when she returns. rental payments are paid directly from her bankacct each month. she will cash upon her arrival as well as cash in her bank accts here. she is traveling with her 9 month old daughter and clearly no intent to 2work here even legally. she is done as domestic helper here forever.

thank you very much for your reply. i will not mention about renting apartment, but only give address . unfortunately we do not know any permanent resident here from whom we can get an invitation letter. as i am only usa tourist myself i do not qualify to issue an invitation letter. should i make hotel resevation for her and use that instead?

[UPDATE] Please note that fee quotes stated in historic postings may be out-of-date.

There is no ‘pre-application’ visa or entry permit required for tourists from Philippines; the maximum number of days to stay in Hong Kong is 14 days. In addition, she should ensure that they have sufficient funds to cover her stay in Hong Kong, receive a letter of support from a Hong Kong resident and hold an onward or return ticket.
