I am in the middle of building a place and have been doing a bit of research... I read somewhere that Baumatic was comparable to premium quality but without the price...
Would be good to have some feedback from people who actually use these appliances though....

my only advice is to check the support in hong kong. e.g. i had some challenging experiences with gilman who support many of these brands

I am using Siemens and very happy with it.

You can seldom go wrong with a German brand, whether it be cars or appliances. Have been very happy with Siemens, AEG and Bosch in the past.
Note that many companies use a multi-tiered approach. For example Electrolux have Zanussi as a "low cost" brand.
Agreed with cookie09 that support is an important issue.

Brands on your list are probably on the middle tier. They'll do the job but finish may not be as nice and not as reliable as top end brands. I'm kind of partial towards Miele, Fisher&Paykel, Siemens and Gaggenau.

Miele and Gaggenau are indeed awesome. Their prices reflect it too!

Thanks to all, yes if the kitchen in question was large enough and budget larger i would also not think twice about German brands but unfortunately am trying to source between mid range and have had no experience buying an electric oven before either. any comments are helpful......:)
Ed, what did you go for at the end, appliances wise?

I haven't finalized that decision yet... our designer's wife used to be a chef in a five star hotel so we're going to rely on her for advice on the kitchen set up and gear - next time we meet I will ask her opinion on appliance brands.

I have some good experience with appliances from the brand "Candy" which is also made in Italy.
Got them installed in 2 apartments of mine, built-in fridge, induction cooker, washer and dryer 2in1 and recently purchased the Trio device which is a 3-in-1 device, oven/dishwasher/induction cooker and so far so good, got a very friendly kitchen shop located in Wan Chai that have also the brands you mentioned above and after a huge research I've done in whole HK Side, Kowlooon and New Territories I found their price the best, message me if you are interested in the contact details.

I'm looking to buy a cooker/oven at the moment but finding that a freestanding gas/electric oven (gas hob, electric oven) a little hard to find. So far I've found an indiset one through wing-on - anyone know of any others in the low-mid range? Towngas have ovens but the hobs and oven are all gas. We are renting so not interested in built-in or high end ovens.
Are gas ovens more stable these days (as opposed to the gas mark 1-5 range) and as good as electric ovens for even baking etc?

Good gas ovens are ok, but I still think an electric oven is better. Cheap gas ovens (like ours sadly) are abysmal...

I have a Cristal Oven, Cristal Hood and Fisher & Paykel fridge. All are fantastic.
Make sure you buy from a wholesaler not Fortress. Wholesalers will be about 10-20% cheaper. You pay cash but you save too.
PM if you need a contact..
