Anyone bought from either of these companies and are either reliable?

Well the Automall consists of several dealers under one roof. You have various ones in Hong Kong. GP Motors generally sells most cars on consignment, as do many other dealers, i.e. they are the middle man. One of the western dealers here does some business with GP Motors so they obviously have some good cars and I know the same guy refuses to deal with other dealers because of clocked or poor cars.

OK, that is my worry. Clocking and general poor maintenance of the cars. Do you know if the dealers allow independents to carry out checks on the car? Say, European Motors? Guess the faults should then dictate the price.....

Hey, we bought our car from Automall's New Way Motors. Excellent service! PM me if you need our dealer's name. He speaks excellent english.

Buying a used car in Hong Kong is not easy. Clocking is rife. The main agents do not make life easy as they refuse to give out information on used cars on the grounds that the service history of a car belongs to the owner and NOT the car....! They invoke a Privacy Ordinance in which there is a clause stating that information must be revealed to help to prevent or expose a crime!
My advice is to get the car checked out by a reputable independent garage. PM me and I will give you a couple of names.
Also Google used cars Hong Kong. GOOD LUCK....!

Clocking isn't illegal and is carried out on all used cars, regardless. I've heard horror stories from a lot of the larger more recommended dealers as well as the small operations. It's rife and if you know people in the trade the stories are both horrendous and laughable. Service histories get lost (ahem), cars are resprayed cheaply before going into showrooms, the list goes on.
A nice one I heard a few weeks back from my friend, he was asked to look at a car for someone looking to buy, nice car, all shiny and glimmering in the showroom with 45,000kms on the clock - he knew the car being offered (he'd seen it before) and last time he saw it it had 179,000kms. Obviously the buyer walked.

I guess buying from a main dealer is your safest option. Bit pricier but I guess it's peace of mind.
Thanks everyone. Glad to know how dodgy it is out here. Plus expensive. Buying anything with performance new means adding 100% to the list price. Quite a shocker coming from UK where cars are cheap in comparison!
