Hi All,
We have one of those terribly noisy window air cons in our bedroom and the noise is unbearable at night. Normally during the night we just turn the air con in the living room on high, and open the bedroom door.
However, we were thinking about buying a split type air con for the bedroom. Can anybody give us advice on how much hassle this would be with the installation etc?

You can also goto the appliance shops directly. They normally work with licensed contractors and they come check your home and then give you a quote. Make sure the installation also includes full sealing of pipes and tubes. Please ask the appliance shop. They can also consult you on what unit is right for you. I recommend one that can also heat, then you can have a warm bed room in winter.

I believe the new standards for a/c means that all should be inverters (ie both cold and heat). If someone is selling you one that is just cooling, then it is most likely an old model. If you go to Fortress, they will have prices for plenty of models. They can have someone come in and give you a quote. You should also expect to pay for not only the machine, but the installation (including pipes and scaffolding) as well as the disposal of the old unit.
In terms of brands, Daikin is most expensive brand and very popular in HK. I heard that the factory in Japan was affected by the earthquake so there was a shortage of Daikin's earlier in the year. My whole house is Daikin - very quiet, very efficient. Mitsubishi is also a good brand.

I had the same problem and recently installed 2 inverter units at a cost of 20k including labour for a 2 HP unit and a 1 HP unit.the private shop is located on the corner of DES veoux rd and western st in sai ying pun. The air cons ( general) are brilliant, very quiet and extremely efficient. The guys installing the units were quick,clean and did a good job of patching up the hole left by the window type unit. Highly recommended.

Hi, My Living room samsung aircon compressor is dead, its a split a/c with approx 2.5ton. We are looking to buy a new one but want the price in limits so not going for Inverter tech(hot+cold) rather will be buying just Cooling Air con.
One of the suggestion we got is for YORK A/C and we see a lots of them in our building, its energy level 2 and comes with 9500HKD for 2.5 Ton including installation.
Please can anyone comment if its a good buy and is YORK a good company?
