I was wondering if anyone can point in the right direction. I want to go to one of the affected countries and help out in any way I can - I'm not a doctor or have any particular expertees, but hopefully I can be useful in some way or another, even if just in an office looking for missing persons.
The main issue is that I'm not able to get over there until April. Its hard to tell, but will they still need my help by then or will the disorganised chaos be organised chaos by April?
Any ideas anyone?

stay where you are - add up the money it would cost you for flights. accomm and eating out, and give ti the Red Cross, Oxfam, MSF or any other charity working over there - they actually have people on the ground who are doctors, and know about emergency aid administration.

I thought about that, but I'm going travelling in region anyway, and I thought that rather than having a good time partying in Bangkok, I should give up 2 weeks of my life to help people that need it. Surely time is more valuable than money? I'm not discouraging people from donating money, but surely their actual work and care is more worthwhile - no? By the way, MSF said over a week ago that they are not encouraging more donations as they raised the amount they pledged to give. With that in mind, I thought it is manpower they need.

Gaffer - completely what I wanted to say but didn't want to sound arrogant or make myself out some sort of modern day samaritan.
Swimgirl thanks for the link.

Swimgurl - have just looked at the link and seen it is organised by a "charity" which I have had bad experiences with before. I'll look for other placements instead I think

HkScot - any leads on this? I'm not neccessarily experienced in the typical emergency relief fields, but want to go with an organized group vs on my own.
