I doubt many Indian pregnant women stop eating spicy food. The doctors will prpbably give you a long list of foods to avoid, but bear in mind they change their mind every year. When I had my first child we were told to eat liver twice a week as vit A was good for you, by the time I was pregnant with my 2nd 15 months later we were told to avoid it at all costs as too much vit A is dangerous. Pate and soft cheeses are definately on the lists of no nos, but then again I'm sure most French women still eat them. Just be sensible.

Spicy food causes heartburn and sometimes a tummy ache. Cold drinks (some Indians believe) gives you a sore throat, cold, etc.

You may be best to check with your obstetrician or the antenatal class teacher as they usually have the latest information.

Avoid soft cheeses, pate, sashimi. Also eggs should be well cooked. I am 22 weeks now and eat one or the other once in a while. I think as long it is fresh it should be fine
