Jaysus, Ladies, can we be more shallow with topics like this? This is just too depressing. Western bf....local gf....endless inane discussions about why wetsern guys would not or would date local girls ( and I mean anywhere local, not just in HK). Is it any wonder why these guys treat local women like doormats? Western men are just like your compatriots. They fart( yes it is ture), they cry, their breath smell in the morning and they can be petty, stupid, and downright childish. Dont give them any more crdit than they deserve.

I was with a loving, attentive, generous Chinese guy for about 10 months. The r/ship was great; he was very ahead of his time in his views, attitudes and we had interesting conversations about a wide range of topics. Bedroom activities weren't a flop either (pardon the pun); my Chinese guy wasn't the worst lover I've had. For the record, my worst was with a Western guy who bragged about how wonderful he was in bed. Turns out, he was the complete flop! My r/ship ended b/c he became quite possessive and tried to run certainly aspects of my life. ie: tried to stop me from seeing male friends, commented on the fact that he hated me wearing revealing tops, even if they weren't, etc. But Western guys aren't all that either. The possessiveness shown by my Chinese ex is something that has happened with Western boyfriends too. Boys will be boys, It doesn't matter where they're from. I never thought I would be attracted to a Chinese guy, but I had a r/ship with him cos I fell for him completely. He also revealed to me that lots of Chinese men find Western women attractive but are a little shy in persuing them, its easier for them to go out with Chinese girls. three of my girlfriends are seeing local Chinese guys too. One of them has said that she hasn't been in such a loving and healthy r/ship for a long time (this is her first r/ship with an asian) and they're planning to get married this year. Awww...

I have been in China for the past four years and have dated a couple of Chinese guys. The myth isn't a myth but there are many Chinese guys that are well-endowed. I think that one of the main reasons that you don't see western girls with Chinese guys is becuase of the shy factor. A lot of the Chinese guys are really shy to be around a western girl. They are worried about their English ability...communication, but not only this....I believe that the main reason is because they know Chinese or Asian guys are smaller in comparison. They feel embarrased and feel that they will disapoint. Also, Chinese men aren't used to woman that are in control and most can't handle it.
For me, I find that any race is ok....good looking guys can be found anywhere. But...Chinese guys are too small. Not in the obvious respect but in their bone structure, wieght, body shape....I need a big strong man that can make me feel safe.

I am not that tall but i am a western girl so I not the size of a chopstick. I am not fat but generally western girls are wider than Chinese girls or even guys. Its not soo much their height...it is in respect to every part of their body. I have found some that are strong...have good bodies, but they are still narrow. I am a western girl so I have big breats, big bones and little bit of meat to hold on to. How can I feel safe with a man that is as wide as me? If I wrestle a guy...I want to know that he will win.... :)

Stupid has most points right. I think SH has seen lots of changes. Western girls are usually not attracted to Chinese guys. This is so not because they don't like Chinese guys. It is just thier exposures or percetptions of Chinese guys are still in the virgin territories. It is easier for Chinese guys to like western girls physically due to superficial or immediate visual effects. To know a girl(or a person)requires more than an immediate or visual effect. I agree that Chinese guys are smaller or less in physiques than non Asian male. In order for most western girls to like Chinese guys, they have go beyond the initial superficial or physical reactions. But for most western girls who are serious about Chinese guys, they go deeper than the superficial and beyond cultural, language, financial and religious hurdles. Once they do overcome these hurdles, their relationships are strong. Interracial relationship is also a matter of taste. Most western girls who are attracted to Chinese guys end up having very successful relatoionship ultimately.

I think there are two types of Chinese girls. One believes that Western males are geniunely appreciating Chinese girls as the way they are. The other type views that Western males are having yellow fever and can be manipulated.
I think your indirect comments about your friends' view of Chinese males as hairless doormats are overboard. I don't believe most Western females in China share that view. Most of them in general do not care so much about Chinese males. But if they do at all, they either like them or otherwise have problem in the relationship due to cultural barriers.

Good observations. I tend to agree with you that the standards of beauty vary between Chinese and Western males. I honestly don't believe most western girls do not reject Chinese males. It is just a matter of an uncharted terrritory. Well most Chinese girls date exclusively of western males for two reasons; either they are attracted to them for what they are or they believe in the existence of economic disparity.

I'm in love with a Cantonese guy for about 7 years now, and I think chinese b/f are nicer with their girls than their western counterparts. They are "men" in the old fashion way, nothing to do with the "latin-lover" or super macho type that you encounter in my country. I have no problem with him being just as tall as me, I'm not looking for a body-guard ! I'm like most western girl very independent, but his traditionnal way of being in charge is fine with me, because it's really in a non aggressive way. I dated western guys and they tend to treat their girlfriends as pretty things they exhibit, but they just like to know the girl is their "thing". Also, I really don't like hairy bodies, so asian type is much more my type !

yeah, it is a long time, but as stupid say : when chinese men say I love you, they do mean it. ;) It's a long distance relationship, one kind I believe is of the most difficult to keep working, so it just shows that when you really care about someone, no matter what the differences may be between your 2 cultures, it can happen.

I met him in GZ when I was at the University. I was 16 then, and I'm going 23. He is 2 years older, he is from Shenzhen. We lived together for about 3 years, then he moved to Paris with me, where I had to finish my studies. It didn't work well for him, culture shock I guess. So we decided he should return to Shenzhen, while I still had 2 years before graduation. We kept in touch all that time, although we didn't see each other once. Then I moved to BKK 6 months ago, and I soon as I was settled, I booked a flight and went to SZ. We haven't changed a bit, nor have our feelings. We're gonna see each other every 3 months I guess, until we can both to live together, in Thailand. The hardest part is behind us, not seeing each other for years, and not being able to communicate very often. Now, we see each other on QQ every 2 or 3 day, call regularly, it's much easier. We believe in what chinese call "yuanfen", or fate. We're made for each other. :)

Lola, Good for you. Happy endings. I misunderstood that for 7 years you were in a LDR. But at least you were together for 3 years and then some time more in Paris. I admire both of you for your comittment and dedications. I am sure it is a beautiful and romantic relationship. Just FYI - I am asian in looks and my first chinese gf was when I came to HK in 97 ... but that is the only chinese gf I have ever had.
I think unfortunately, people refer to a chinese or asian guy and they think we all behave / act / are the same.
We're frickin not! I certainly do not behave like a local HK, Mainland or Singaporean guy.
I know from a local guys pt of view they may not be attracted to western girls, but also they are do not know how to communicate with them.
It gets even worse if you are an expat western woman ... i.e. the cultural and physical gap is wider. So while one would argue the original postr is racist (as am I, as I believe almost everyone is by nature) she is not expressing and untruth .... it is a reality.
Ironically I find it easier talking to western girls, and I wouldn't ever DARE speak to a local girl.
I am meandering, but my point is ... er.... this:
White meat, brown meat ... it's all good ... as long as you are not a vegetarian.

I find some Asian guys attractive. I was actually on a date with a Chinese guy (he lives in Finland) a couple of weeks ago, and he was a real gentleman! Took me to a restaurant (he wanted to pay and he did), for a walk and even gave me a ride home by his car! Finnish guys consider if a girl is worth of getting her coffee, but this Chinese guy was great!
However, cultural and individual differences were huge. Cultural differences would be easy to overcome, but individual preferences... Hmm, it's best that we stay friends. I am still in contact with him, and we are friends now :)
The experience of that Chinese guy was so great that I would love to go on a date with Chinese guys any second!!
What comes to the looks, since I am short, only 160cm, I don't fancy very tall guys. About 174-184 cm is perfect for me! I also LOVE dark, thick hair on a guy!! I dislike blonde-haired guys and therefore many Finnish guys aren't that attractive in my eyes. Of course, I wouldn't want the guy be too skinny, as I am not either. I am not fat, nor skinny, but I would say that I have curves. However, next to a skinny guy I'd feel maybe too big... Good that I had low-heel shoes with me on the date :D He was taller than me, but I got to feel more feminine since I was shorter, though he was thin :)
So my conclusion: some Asian guys are HOT!!! At laest there is one Western woman who fancies them ;)

Finnlady, I don't agree on your comment on Finnish guys as "all fat as pigs". I've been to Finland, well not further into this country, but at Helsinki airport this time of last year. The first two Nordic guys I spoke to (after 10 hours' flying) were two tall, well shaped and handsome Finnish guys.
Guys & gals in every different country can't be generalized in a certain scale. Chinese guys abroad might be attractive enough for gals out there, but they can also be disgusting enough to make you sick in China! Finnish / Nordic guys can be fat enough to be entitled as "pigs" by Finnlady, but some of them can be sweet enough for Asian girls. Actually my BF is a Nordic guy, from Sweden. He's the sweetest man in my eyes. It's all the matter of luck so to speak.

They are so different from Finnish guys. But it is a different culture in Sweden; Swedish guys are nicer to women than Finnish guys. Of course there are exceptions, but Finland has a "mörökölli" culture of being quiet and not kissing or showing any soft emotions. That is just not what youg Finnish women want!

Yes they do... I have seen it. But its odd, because in general chinese guys tend to take on the more feminine roll, where the wem on just spit out demands (sorry ladies). So it is heard to be with a western lady whos attitudes and behaviors differ. But of course, there are some westerners with chinese men out side of HK or ABC.

I've never dated Chinese guys, coz I don't like them. Didn't even try to spend any time and passion on them either.
I rarely meet any Chinese guys who could be as gentlemen as Western guys, although not all western guys are gentlemen, but most are. They know how to smile to ladies, and how to be polite. Chinese guys??...most are still infants...long way ahead for them to learn!
Of course, ABC guys, or some guys studied and worked abroad for years might be better. They're more educated and more influenced by western culture and they know how to behave like a gentleman. Never cherish any hope on local Chinese guys. They'll just drive you sick!

Interesting how our experiences are different, Neurose :) Some Western men can be great, but avoid Finnish men, OK? They are chauvinistic, ugly, go to Thailand to f*ck kids as no sane women in Finland would f*ck them... The only Chinese guy I had a date with was a gentleman from tip to toe. He didn't seem that westernized, as he took me to a Chinese restaurant :/ He doesn't even speak Finnish though he's been here for 5½ years...

Yes, I am marrying with a Western guy soon and be ready to move to his country and learn to speak his language. Although there're also some craps & jerks in western countries, but compared with in China, that's much better a place to live.
At least I won't see "polite gentlemen" (fake gentlemen perhaps...lol) elbowling and pushing around for just an empty seat in subway and on bus! LOL...you guys out there probably can never imagine what a contrast it is between Chinese guys' behavior and their appearance! I'm fed up of it..and feel sick of them!

I know it's wrong to over-generalize chinese guys. But hey, don't you have the similiar experience in China (in subway, or buses) that Chinese guys tend to be very "aggressive"? All those elbowing on your back, stomach once or twice would probably be okay, but over hundreds of times when you go out, nobody will feel pleasing of their behavior! Especially when I've got a comparation with Western guys.
Also agree with Stupid, nobody will respect you if you don't respect others.
You may also find it often, if you're in China, guys tend to spit randomly on streets! Not all, but among at least half of them would be in suit & tie hanging a suitcase. There was a risky experience of mine that I was almost running into a guy's yucky spit in the air!
Maybe my comments on Chinese guys are a bit typical, but don't you know that ppl tend to be more interested in and talk more about bad points than good points? If Chinese guys don't wanna be the center of negative discussion, just be more behaved themselves! Thus, there'll be more girls, eastern or western, feel them to be attractive.

Blowing nose might exist in every where in Europe, but I didn't see any guys doing that during my short stay in Sweden. Maybe they were hiding at some corners and blowed their noses sneakly? lol...
I did see a dirty drunk begger ridding a bus and self-talked loud in Sweden. That's not very usual in China though.

Hmm I don't see Finnish people blow their noses that often. If I have to do it, I turn my head away from the company that I am with :) Once there was a dirty boy blowing his nose loudly in a bus! Yuck!!! His hair was longer than would be nice, color of a landroad... EWWWW!!
