I want to purchase a video camera for my son back in Oz.
He studies film & TV at High School and needs to produce his own films for assignments. I am overwhelmed by the array of camcorders etc on offer and wondered if someone could recommend one that might suit his needs.
I am looking in the $3500-$5000 HK price range. One brand over another? I like the design of the smaller ones - do they do as much as the bulkier cameras? It is a surprise present so I cannot ask him directly.

I have a Samsung - Good camera and does everything I need BUT have just purchased an iMac and find only a limited range of cameras are compatible. Seeing as the camera will be used for film-making at an institution and Macs are common in those circles then I suggest you limit your choices to Canon, Sony, Panasonic. Check with Mac people about other brands.
