Is far as I know our prices and the Adventist are very similar. We have made the packages as comprehensive as possible so there should not be any additional charges. The hospital charges for a standard room package for a normal deliver over 3 nights is HK18,000.
Should you wish to find out more or take a look around please feel free to contact me 2849 0328.

Hi. Have you visited both hospitals? They can give you and your husband a tour. Adventist packages are around: standard room (4 beds)12000, semi private (2 beds) 16000, private room 26000. It's quite private and quiet there too, although no view.

Dear Mrs Miggins,
I must say having had children in private hospitals in Hong Kong and Australia my experience in Hong Kong was exceptional. Having said that I didn't pay a penny from my own pocket thanks to very good health care. The Matlida is a great place to have a baby without a doubt but honestly I'd go to the Adventist if it was likely I'd have to pay 40K, all my friends who have delivered there have been very happy with the level of care.

Having done both for 5 day Caesars:the care is identical, the food better at Adventist, neither has a view thanks to the Peak mist and Adventist loaded the bill despite ostensibly cheaper package. Good luck

I'm surprised by the comment on the food, esp. since the Adventist generally has a limited vegetarian menu (or isn't that the case in maternity?) I thought the food at the Matilda was amazing!! The only surprise was the amount of beans, lentils, broccoli etc., not really want you want breastfeeding but very tasty.
Also, if you are concerned about the cost (hidden extras, etc.) I'd check you are covered for any special care for a baby, our babe spent 6 days in special care at the Matilda with her own bill of 60K (a total bill around 150K hospital alone). I would think this is the same for both hospitals.

When we looked into it (2 years ago) the costs at Matilda and Adventist were very similiar.
Adventist's private rooms are larger, which is nice if you have family visiting, and they have a whirlpool tub for the labouring mum's use where the Matilda had only a standard tub and shower (water therapy is great for labor management) and miserable husband bed.
That being said, we went with the Matilda and found their midwife care to be tremendous, very nurturing and supportive, which was a nice way to gain confidence before we brought our little bundle home. That may also be the case with the Adventist too, I don't know, but I can't say enough about how helpful the midwives at Matilida were for us. So for us, we weren't just getting a nice room! (And we weren't getting good food either, I think SARS impacted the catering arrangements, which may be what the earlier response referred to.)
All the best with everything, you're starting a wonderful adventure.

I happen to have the phone no for Adventist: 2574-6211. I can't speak to maternity care as my daughter was admitted for another issue, and I've no experience with Matilda. However, my daughter thought the food was so good at Adventist that she has even asked to go back there just to eat! They have a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian menu, yes the selections are a bit limited but the food quality is excellent. I think that $40,000 out of pocket is a huge amount of money! Some things I've seen people in the U.S. do to to reduce out of pocket costs are to "room in" to avoid nursery fees (preferable for breastfeeding mom anyway -- at one hospital I got my doctor to write an order that my baby was to stay with me), have a shorter stay for a non-complicated delivery (for one baby I left after six hours, and 24 hours is more or less routine), take your own tylenol, oversize pads and toiletries (little cost add-ons). Be aware, however, that you always have to be prepared for surprises (the medical uncertainties are the reason you are going to the hospital), and you really won't know the whole story until after baby is here! And yes, do find out whether the package includes ordinary care for the baby or whether there are special nursery, pediatric, or anesthesia charges added on top. Find out if pediatric care is covered under mother or if there is a separate insurance deductible for the baby, also may need to notify insurance company to add baby as a dependent.

speaking as the person who wrote the cheques for Mater above, and thus has seen bills from each hospital for identical deliveries, my tuppenceworth is...
the Adventist package sounds cheaper but everything apart from air is an extra. they even tried to charge us for an extra days use of the room because we had to wait a couple of hours for the paedeatrician to come and have a final look at no.1 son before we left. when they say 5 days they mean 5 days - you arrive at 8am, you have to leave by 8am in 5 days, if you leave at 8.05am they'll try to charge you.
at the Matilda the package seems more expensive but much more is included, and if you get lucky and book a double room and have no-one else in it then you're on to a real winner.
Both hospitals seems to have great staff, and the nursing seemed top notch at both (tho mater can speak more knowledgeably than me on that)
In the end the cheques i wrote to each were remarkably similar - certainly close enough to not worry abou the difference.
BUT - Food - we had heard about the RitzCarlton chef etc, but i'm sorry Matilda - it was woeful in comparison to the Adventist. i even ended up bringing sandwiches up from mix in town for myself in the evenings because your menu and food was distinctly unimpressive, and took for ever to arrive.
i also know a woman who had a baby at the Matilda a couple of years ago and she resorted to getting her amah to bring meals up to her every day.
I suppose at the end of the day it's not the food that you should be worried about, but the care and professionalism of the staff, and I couldn't fault either.

To Lynn of Matilda
Regarding the food, we did not realize that you still had your Ritz Carlton chef there. The rumour we got from our friends that you USED TO have one and due to perhaps cost cutting you settled with ordinary hospital food.
Or was the food cooked by the chef only for the mom?
My wife delivered there. The food I ate when I was at her bedside I thought were quite ordinary.
No offense but I think you need to dispell the rumour and relay this quickly to your catering!
