Tipping in beauty salons in Hong Kong

Hi, I'm thinking of going for mani/pedicures and waxing but totally confused about tipping etiquettes in Hong Kong. Please can someone give me an idea? If I tipped the lady $10 for doing my nails, will she be offended (manicures cost ~ $150)?

Thanks

Mad woman - the $10 tip was just an example for a $150 manicure. Honestly you would tip up to $50 for a $150 manicure?? That sounds crazy that is 33.3% of cost of the manicure itself! Maybe I'm just tight :P

Man I got a lot to learn about tipping in HK.

cara - thank you for your advice, I will definitly have some change ready for when I go to the salon.

not sure if this is correct, but what I do:

Haircut - cost 700 - 1000 - tip 100 (more if also get a complex style)

Manicure & Pediciure - cost 150 an up - tip 20

Hair Washer / Assistant - tip 20 (unles you have the same one each time and they treat you very nice with shoulder massages, etc... then 50 or even more)

BUT - saying that, some places specifically do NOT allow tips. Once place in Happy Valley called Bonne Nails does not allow tipping.

When do you tip? Whilst in the beauty room (ie if being waxed or lashes tinted) or on the way out with the cashier?

I always leave 50-70 at my local hairdresser where a cut is only 170 - but never specify how to split it. Does that mean the hairwasher does not receive any unless I specify?? Ooops.

wow you must be great Cara!! Taking any new clients haha?

Yeah good point about when to tip.. I'm guessing in the beauty room if you're having a wax..
