I have 2 kids and have tried many different prams both here and in Australia. I have found the best one for HK is the new Maclaren XT - available at Bumps To Babes. It goes completely flat for sleeping; you can use it from newborn; the wheels are big enough to manage most terrain in HK (though we struggled on the rougher ground on a recent OS trip) and it is easy to fold and light to lift.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help, but do you know if it fits through the MTR turnstyles? Do any prams?

Anyone know offhand how much this Maclaren model weighs and costs?

The Maclaren Volo fits under the MTR turnstyles; haven't tried the Maclaren XT techno, so not sure if it fits under or not. The Volo is great for toddlers and is very light weight. It's not suitable for a baby though---it doesn't recline. HTH

All the MTR stations I've been to have disabled access, which means special wide gates. You just have to follow the disabled signs - they are wide enough for wheelchairs so no problem with single strollers/prams. I've taken an Emmaljunga through which is one of the biggest prams you can buy.

We also have a Maclaren for HK and it's been good.

Don't buy Combi,

I recently bought a Combi pushchair for my sister in Canada.

When she unpacked it and placed her baby in the pushchair she noticed that the stroller was difficult to turn and manuever.

She examined the stroller and realized that the stroller was balanced on 3 wheels because one of the wheels was aproximately 1/2 cm off the floor.

When I called Combi, the staff were not helpful at all. They were all nice when I bought the items but didn't want anything to do with me when I complained about their product.

I later found out that their strollesr are all made in China even though they are considered a Japanese brand. The material is supposedly from Japan but it is made and assembled in China.

The stroller was expensive $2800.

I bought this stroller because I had one 10 years ago and it was lightweight and durable.

However, after my experience, I wouldn't buy

the product now.

What would you suggest?

Wish list:

for ages 0-18 months(needs to recline)

Easy to 'drive'

Easy to get up and down pavement and stairs

Fitting in the MTR, on bus aisles

Light Weight! I know it will have to be carried sometimes, and I want to be able to lift it easily.

Should I worry about the height of the seat - ie, if they are low down and I am in town they will be getting car fumes in their face?

thanks

What about Perego? Price was HKD2580. They looked better to me. We haven't decided yet what to get.

We also looked at the MacLaren but thought they are not so comfortable.

We went through several push chairs since our arrival in HK. We needed something not bulky, easy to fold with one hand, easy to get on and off a bus with a kid, a good basket for shopping, can fit through turnstiles at the MTR etc, and durable enough to bump up and down the gazillions of stairs in HK (ugh). We liked our Graco Metro, but it wouldn't fit many places and the brakes wouldn't allow for bumping up and down. The rounded handle also wouldn't hold bags. We moved on to the Capella because it reclined well and had a great sun shade. Lousy handling, though and I had to give it a kick just to get it up and down from curbs. Not practical. It also requres 2 hands to fold, not great for keeping a running 14 month old from jumping into the road. We settled on the Macleran Triumph and wished we had started there. Fits anywhere, reclines just enough for a nice nap, holds all the shopping and has been bumped up and down and sideways all over town. I love this stroller and would HIGHLY recommend it!

Anyone have an opinion on the Mountain Buggy Terrain or Breeze three wheelers? It seemed to fold easily.

Don't buy the Maclaren XT Techno, if you are planning on folding it up often (i.e. when you get in a taxi). You have to bend down to fold it up and it won't stand on its own once folded up. Try manouvering the folding up with a baby in a carrier at the front and a backpack on your back...

The more expensive Combi model (2800HKD) is great for folding up with one hand, however doesn't 'bump' well down flights of stairs.

I still haven't come across the PERFECT one:

- folds up with one hand

- fully reclinable

- able to 'bump' down stairs

tsuiwah, I have a Mountain Buggy "Urban" which is essentially the terrain with a swivel wheel at the front rather than a fixed front wheel.

The wheel can be locked into position though too.

The swivel wheel means you can turn easily without having to push down on the handle bar to raise the front wheel off the ground to turn.

A fixed front wheel is what you need for serious walking or jogging.

It has been fantastic for walking with my (large) son, and he seemed very comfortable.

However, it is not the answer if you are going to be dealing with buses, taxi's or the MTR.

I live in D.B. and walk practically everywhere!

It takes two hands to fold and is quite long and wide. It would fit in the boot of the taxi on the odd occasion I took one, but if you are tryng to collapse it, juggle shopping and a baby/toddler forget it.

I bought a cheapie from bumps to Babes called a "Cadet" for $250. It does the job for occasional trips to HK. Don't think it would stand up to constant use though. Also, my son is two now, so I don't need a recline position.

I've seen a few of the "Breeze" models around, but have never used one myself.

Hope this helps, cheers.

We are using Combi. I agree that the wheels are not that great but it is relatively light weight yet strong and its compact size makes it easier to take anywhere (train stations, small restaurants etc). I'm glad I bought Combi because I can't imagine carrying a heavier stroller with my baby in it.

i have a maclaren quest but it's for my 6 month old. i highly recommend a maclaren techno xt, i wish i had bought it instead of maclaren quest. it weigh 6.5 kg, pretty light and it can fully recline so that the baby can sleep comfortably inside. it costs about 2400 i think but i saw it recently in mothercare and they charges cheaper than btb.

We have a perego. Its sturdy, firm, comfortable. can be used for newborns to older kids.

We have the one that does not fold tiny, bit big.. but we wanted it. There are other types of perego too, that seemed fine.

Congratulations & all the best Baqus :)
