Party Place for ladies

ORIGINAL POST

ladies, I am planning a small-ish b'day bash for my sister in HK end of this month, and will be getting a group of girlfriends together. Any suggestions for a really happening club/place where we can drink and dance the night away without having all sorts of men coming up to us to "buy you drink??", "hey come dance with me", or "wanna rock?" ... you get the idea.

A new pub has just opened in Central - you just walk up the Fringe Club and up, past the Noodle Box and up a bit more. It's called Chi. I went to their opening night and yes, it's small but that guarantees intimate atmosphere. Also because it's new (if I remember correctly, I went to their opening night some time in late July), less likely you would get men coming up to you offering you a drink. Have fun!

Go to FINDS in LKF- www.finds.com.hk

Very stylish, great drinks, super cool crowd (and you won't get hassled at all - they don't let sleazy guys in there). You can start off with a meal there, or simply go for drinks and c*cktails.

Have fun!

Its pretty easy - any good doorman or doorgirl knows how to pick the right crowd, who to let in and who to keep out. The sleazy guys seem to end up down in Wanchai, or in places like Insomnia, and Bar George etc...

Bali, Chiki and Combination girl - I will leave it to you to check out these various bars for yourselves. You will see I'm right. Its fine by me if you like places in Wanchai, Insomnia and Bar George but QT was looking for a NICE place to have a drink.

i surely agree with remmy . insomnia for sure has guys approaching girls .. i have had guys talk to me there many a couple of times . but it does not mean i do not like that place .. its fun to listen to the band there and i enjoy it but since cavern has opened - i'd rather be in cavern (cover charge helps to pull in decent crowd )since QT wants a NICE place then remmy is right i must say .

I've made contact with FINDS and their food and drinks menu looks superb. What kind of music do they have there?

Yip - its a pretty nice place. The music varies, but on the times I have been there on a weekday there they have really cool lounge music and on weekends they have DJs playing more funky stuff. What I really like about it though is that the music is good, yet at a comfortable level that you can easily sit around drinking and chatting without having to yell. And also there is a massive outdoor balcony that looks down onto LKF. If you have a meal there, the night just kind of seems to flow on and at around 10.30-11ish the lights dim slightly, the music picks up. At the moment its a super cool place and you seen quite a few celebs dining and drinking there, but the staff are all quite relaxed, friendly and down to earth. Make sure you book a table in advance though if you plan on eating there. Ok - so what day was it that you were planning on being there? I might come by and offer you a drink! (Just kidding - have fun...)

Remmy, you are incorrect.

Good door security will filter out troublemakers & non spenders. Sleaze has nothing to do with it ( look up the definition )

Best way to not get hit on by guys is very simple, don't make yourself attractive to them.

I personally like women who take pride in how they look, and how look cute, attractive and sexy. Part of the whole going out experience for both men and women is looking and feeling good. I don't think women should try to "not be attractive to men" so as to avoid sleazy guys. Rather the way to go is to go to classy places, with a cool crowd, where you don't even get sleazy guys in the first place.

As for the discussion to the extent that door men play a part in picking the crowd, there is a probably another thread somewhere discussing this whole topic. But I can tell you that I know the HK hospitality and social scene pretty well. And the fact of the matter is that doormen do pick the crowd, looks do matter in some places, and that some places are sleazer than others. There are some places (like Insomia, Bar George, and places in Wanchai) where smelly, overwieght, drunken, loud, (and yes sleazy) guys, wearing shorts and football shirts etc, and who generally don't respect women as much, are let into, and where behaviour like approaching women and making comnments to them that some would consider sleazy are tolerated (and this is in fact also reflected by the type of women who go to those places - ie a mixture of prostitutes, women who want one night stands, and women who don't stand much of a chance attracting a man's attention in more upmarket palces. It these kind of places that QT, who started this thread, is trying to avoid. On the other hand there are some very nice places where these kind of guys are generally not let into, and it is this kind of place that QT is looking to go to.

I am not being judgemental here. If you like sleazy places, that's fine by me. There is clearly a market for these kind of places, and if you want to go there, that's fine by me.

If you have been kept out of a place (with the door man telling you "sorry members only" or "private function" or "do you have a reservation" or "are you on the door list" it is not necessarily because they think you are sleazy. That may well be part of it, but it may be for a range of other reasons that you have been kept out. I personally like places that keep certain types out and that let certain types in, but I can also understand this this upsent some people who feel they are being unfairly treated. But in any case, as I have already said I am sure there is another thread that already exists debating this whole topic...

Remmy, again you are incorrect. I've worked the door in my youth for fun & have also partied in HK at many levels, & from my experience I have seen as much drunkeness, coke sniffing & e dropping in the more exclusive establishments as at the less 'elitist' venues, actually for the last 2 I have seen more in behind the velvet rope than in Wanchai. Just because a club or bar has a tight door policy it doesn't mean that there won't be a Canto star hoovering up lines with a couple of models that he is trying to bang . There are also high class hookers in upmarket venues, it's just a bit more subtle ( & expensive ) than Wanchai.

As for attraction, despite what people say, many people they dress for approval or attention ( male & female ). If they are dressed in clothes that have been classified by the media as hot or sexy, stylish etc they will attract attention. It may be unwanted but it's a fact of life. There's no difference between starting a conversation with someone you find attractive at Vong or Dusk Til Dawn ( I know of a couple of chaste, very attractive, high earning female bankers that go there with friends just for the energy, far removed from your description of patrons frequenting establishments like this). There is a difference if the attention is unwelcome, persistent, & making the person uncomfortable but that can come from a 300k p/mo Zegna suited, Tod shoed banker or a 30k p/m smelly, overweight, football shirt wearing drunk guy.

Behind the velvet rope in Wanchai? Dusk till Dawn??? I rest my case. We are talking about different scenes entirely...

PS - its undeniable that there is a HUGE difference between the clientele and sleaze factor of places like Insomnia and the place you mentioned, Dusk Til Dawn, which really are full of sleazy guys and prostitutes (inm fact its the entire business model of places like that) and places like FINDS and Kee Club, which have a clientel of really cool, classy and nice guys and girls.

PPS - Since when was doing coke or being a Cantopop star considered sleazy???

I'm beginning to get the picture now.

Going large & getting lucky at the Kee Club ( or similar ) is cool & classy.

Going large & getting lucky in Wanchai is sleazy ( as is wearing a footbal shirt & being overweight )

Hmmm, I'm stumped over which to choose to describethat attitude. Pretentious is a good one but snobby is quite fitting is as well.

Remmy, if you really know the Hong Kong social scene that well as you have claimed, you would know that a lot of 2nd/3rd tier actresses and models and some of the very famous actresses and model are/were essentially high class prostitutes. A question for you: where do these people hang out?

p.s. Since when overweight, wearing football shorts are considered sleazy?

p.p.s. having money and club memberships do not make one classy! Neither do being pretentious and snobbish!
