If you think that medical equipment used in operations is sterilised by wiping over with an alcohol swab then you're mistaken. Alcohol pads clean, not sterilize, and won't prevent the transmission of fungal infections and the like. New scalpel blades should be used every time; all other equipment used should ultrasonically cleaned and then autoclaved, i.e. high pressure heat-treated for some considerable time. If you go to Lowu for the "cheap and cheerful" treatment, I would suggest you take your own personal equipment with you to avoid the risk of having a nail or skin fungal infection passed on to you.

Cara, not at all. However, I am aware of cleaning and sterlization processes and sometimes find it a little scary when I read people's misconceptions about what is sterile.

What is dim's point, that Miss P didn't want to have "hygiene obsessives" on her case? The use of unsterilised instrunments isn't likely to kill anyone (AIDS and all that) but there is some considerable risk of picking up a persistent infection of some kind. If Miss P is happy to accept that risk that's her choice.

For a nice manicure/pedicure that's hygenic I go to Iyara Beauty which is along the central escalator. 2545 8638
Its on Cochrane St.
All there equipment is sterilized which is important. Years ago I had a infection in my foot from going to a place that didnt clean their equipment well. Also at Iyara, with their pedicures they use new blades when shaving each client's rough skin.
