Hi

What do you use in HK for a burping cloth?

The cloth you put on your shoulder when you burp your baby.

I have heard that I will need a lot of these (25-30), and have no idea what options there are.

I have looked online at babyrus, etc... and they sell quite posh ones but expensive.

there must me a cheap alernative? My mother said the old cloth diapers worked best - so maybe the cheap chinese folding diapers?

What to buy?

Where?

What cost?

Thanks

Toweling hand towels work well. They easily wash are absorbant and cheap! 2 - 4 should be sufficient for around the house and keep one in your baby bag.

Your mum is correct - the old toweling type nappy work just as well and can be folded into thirds and popped over the shoulder.

I had lovely crabtree and evelyn hand towels for my baby's burp cloths. They look very nice and were reasonably priced. Of course Ikea sell hand towels and so do most markets. The towel lady had some lovely cream ones when I was there a few weeks ago. She is in Wanchai.

Yes, I used towelling face towels and muslin squares for burp cloths. Both are available in wan chai market.

If you want to buy Muslin Squares from B2B, a pack of 12 simple ones costs HK$225, quite steep for what you get. Mothercare has muslin squares for a similar price.

The same muslin squares they sell at btb can be bought in the lanes in Central. Pack of 12 for HK60. I also bought one pack at Mothercare (225) and you cannot tell the difference

I bought cloth diapers from Wing On. 100% cotton, very easy and convenient. About $150 for bag of 12.

Thanks for all the replies - this is really helpful.

I was told normal hand/dish towels were too rough - but it seems like the cheapy ones in wan chai market (and other places) are 100% cotton and softer.

Ruth - good idea, I wasn't planning to go until AFTER I had the baby... ugh, but time is sooo hard to find (I work full time) will try to contact them to see when they meet.

Yogini/Momster - that sounds perfect - exaclty the advise we needed :)

Where exsactly can you get the muslin square from in the lanes. My little un loves them, and cuddles and sleeps with them (of course I tie one end to the crib railings)
