I have a few friends who have recently given birth to their second child. With the first babies under two years old and of the same gender, the parents still have all the baby gear from last time. Ideas for gifts please!

I know this sounds a bit realistic, but the best gift I got when I had my son were diapers and a box of formula. May not be the best "gift idea" but certainly the most practical!

I love to give the "loving hands" infant massage book by Frederick Leboyer. It has beutiful black and white pictures inside to demonstrate traditional Indian massage. It is not too wordy and it has some beautiful quotes. Amazon deliver it very quickly.

A very different gift that can be treasured by the baby for years to come.

Shanghai Tang silver picture frames are good as well!

books books books

I got some beautiful books (picture books) for my baby - it wasn't immediately used, but now that my child is 1 - she loves them. sometimes a gift that is for the future isn't bad.

You could do a gift voucher for a baby massage course or some people buy a gift voucher for a mum and baby or family photography session.

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. Sorry it has taken me so long to give feedback! We have been moving house and had visitors...

I ended up getting some toys that the older kids would find just as (or more) interesting than the baby, such as a "busy box" which has knobs you can twist etc, and some good quality finger puppets for older kids to "entertain" the baby with. I figured that they probably don't need things purely for baby and that helping keep the older kids happy might be more valuable!

Liked the idea about providing meals, but recipients have full-time helpers and my life was too hectic to organise that at the time.
