It seems that it is out of stock with all the websites. Do supermarkets in Chaoyang districts, where there are more expat, carry it? We will move to Beijing next year and are wondering whether we need to carry a lot of baby food for our one year old daughter.

Thanks,

Wow, I never would have thought that Gerber was one of those essential items that you would want to ship to China! You know that you can make your own baby food by cooking it, mashing it up to desired consistency, freeze it in ice cube trays, then transfer to ziplock bags? Or, you can simply cook the food and give it to her fresh. She will probably be preferring to feed herself with baby spoon and finger food in the near future. Of course I planned family meals so that they included food my children could eat, but they never ate commercial baby food at all. If your baby really loves bland food, your aiyi will know how to cook a wonderful rice porridge that the babies eat here.

Well, another thought though, is that if you are just moving here for the first time, send some of your favorite foods in your shipment. I mean, your husband's favorite food, your favorite food too, not just baby food. Think in terms of what is "ethic" for your particular culture. You can't afford to ship in all the food you eat but, once in awhile as a special treat, something "from home" will bring you great joy! For instance, this year my "Christmas list" of things I asked for included pecans since I can't find those here! My youngest child loves the instant Quaker oatmeal in cinnamon apple flavor. Things like that. Comfort food! :-)
