I'm a Junior at HKIS, and I'm writing my Junior research paper based on the book Feminine Mystique- more specifically, "the problem with no name" and how it still exists today. The point I want to make is that mother's feel the need/desire to either temporarily suspend themselves from their career or give it up in order to take care of their child. Mothers would like to spend as much time with their children as the time they put into their career- but that becomes increasingly difficult due to time management.
I need to interview some fulltime working moms, part time working moms and stay at home moms in order to make my paper more successful and stronger. So if anyone would be interested in helping me out, please drop me a message!!
Thank you in advance!

Hi Yuli, what a great topic - it will be interesting to see what you find.
May I suggest you ask the PTA or School Board for some parents they might introduce you to?
BTW - I am pregnant, and will return to work ourt of need, but it is too early for me to help in your above research :)

I changed career completely because I wanted to be a Mum and work. My career meant I was working 8am - 9pm with loads of travel I would not have seen my darling boy if I had stayed where I was.
I would be glad to help. please give me your contact details and I will gladly help with your research.

I had to work because we couldn't live on my husband's income alone..... and yes, I feel guilty that I'm not by her side each day.
Give me your contact also and I'll help.

I would be happy to help as well. I am currently a working mom with a 6.5 month old baby girl. My boss has kindly agreed to a flexible work arrangement (i.e. half days in the office only) so that I can spend more time with my girl. While I am grateful for this flexibility, work remains just as demanding and I am usually exhausted trying to do everything!
Would be happy to help with your research. Please give me your contact details.
Thanks.

Hi Yuli, I've been all three of the above -- f.t. working, stay home mom, and working part time. My oldest child is older than you! Feel free to send me e-mail or questions. One thing that surprised me was that it did not get easier to work full time as my children got older! For women trying to sort it out I personally recommend the book by Linda Austin "What's Holding You Back." It's not a book about guilt (Austin herself is a working mom), but it discusses some of the decisions women are faced with and sheds light on some unique mental attitudes of women which might affect those decisions. You can get a used copy cheap on Amazon.com You have chosen a great topic that will benefit you as you plan for your own future.

There is another book, an Australian one called "Motherguilt". The book is different to Austin's in that it acknowledges the fact that all mothers carry that guilt.... it covers topics such as working mothers, stay at home mums, homsexual relationships, special needs children and many more. They even talk about how guilt is the result of changing roles (decades) of women from being a complete stay at home mum to a working mum because we are torn between our responsibility as a mother and needing to work for the money or career satisfaction. It also talks about how some mums felt when they gave up their career to look after their babies and many, many more. I cried when I read the book because there were so many mothers telling their stories and I felt I could relate to them, not their stories but the feelings they felt. It's the best book I've read so far... best self therapy for my guilt.

Hi Yuli26,
I have a 2.8 yrs old daughter. I work. I go away for days & have to leave my daughter here...luckily my Hubby is home every night.
I work as I need to. My Hubby's income will suffice but we need savings & extras. I go through periods of guilt & I miss my family, but the job has to be done.
If you need me to help out in your research, I would gladly help.
All the best!
