My hubby and I want to take Salsa classes. Can anyone suggest any good places that have classes? We don't want one-to-one private lessons as we'd like to meet others with same interest.
Also, we are interested in a series of classes and not the type that are offered at nightclubs along with a drink as part of "Salsa Night". Those are more like Salsa parties, I guess.

I have a list of places at home. Why don't you look up on HKSALSA yahoo user group? I reckon Herman Lam would be good, his background is ballroom and he is into style and tough. Depends if you are up to it. Small classes (max 6) $150 per class - much cheaper for block bookings. I think he is very good. The trouble with the big classes / social is that they do too much at a time with no focus on the key area which is the foot work. All the turns etc can be learnt later and if you have done rock n' roll or ballroom will be easy once you understand the foot work and the rhythm.

I learned from Franky and Chris Wong (see lambada's post above) and from Joseph (www.hkmambo.com ph: 9238 1071), and can recommend them. Joseph also DJ's at C Club on Tues nights, 97 on Wed nights, 1/5 on Thursday nights and the Regal Hotel, Causeway Bay on Saturday nights. There are lessons before the dancing starts at C Club and Regal. Joseph is also organising the HK Salsa Festival at the end of Feb.

Hi, We would also like to find good lessons, I am a complete novice, but my girfriend has little knowledge of the basics.
It there any DVD's that I can buy to make a basic start at home before I make a complete Ar** of myself.

For DVDs,check out www.descarga.com or www.salsaville.com - but there's no substitute for getting to some classes to get started (everybody feels completely unco-ordinated when they start). If you're a husband and wife combo I'd recommend someone like Franky and Chris Wong as it's different for the guys (who have to learn to lead)and the girls (who learn to follow, style ie look sexy, and spin).
