Any married ones has experience in organising a wedding recepetion in HKG (not wedding planner)? I was told they need to book 2years in advance!! My finance and I have to place one in late Jan/Feb,2007, around 100 pax. Ideally western set menu/ buffet. I did enquire the HK Jockey Club but they can't secure me a date due to the non-race day schedule hasn't been out until July,2006! As for the Grand Hyatt Pool House, they can't confirm my booking until 8 weeks before the event kick off!!!! Any recommendations where can cater western community in an informal way, like having a galss of wine with a spectacular view, provide Marquee entertainment etc?

Hi Becs,
Thought I had already posted an answer but it seemed to dissapear!
Anyway - go take a look at the HOng Kong Gold Coast Hotel. They have a Marquee permanently errected and hold lovely wedding receptions in there. It is in a lush garden setting with a lovely view over the Gold Coast Marina. They can do a western buffet or whatever style you would like. You could even have a string quartet or small jazz band playing in the garden. The garden would be a lovely setting for the photographs as well. Not sure but perhaps if you are coming from the Island you could hire a junk or boat to transport your guests and they could have drinks on the way!
Anyway take a look - it is an exciting time for you!

Thats seems like an option! However, Tuen Mun is a bit far way out, isn't it? I just checked there is a hotel called 'Harbour Plaza Metropolis' next to the KCR terminal in Hung Hom which has a patio restaurant there... Anybody dine in there before?

GC Hotel is about 30-40 mins by bus from Central and if by car then we do it in about 20-25 minutes. See not so far!

Cara> did you have yours in the Happy Valley Suite? next to the racecourse with a patio? Is a Chinese banquet or western buffet? Did you have an eveing c*cktail party before the dinner reception? Any entertainment, for example: Dance Floor? Koala48 had hers in Happy Valley too and strongly recommended! I love it too but was told the food quality is under estimated... Most importantly, they can't secure me a date for 2007 still... Thanks everyone by the way.

Sounds a bit unusual, but Disneyland have adorable wedding packages on their website. Worth a look.

Correction - The Quarterdeck did my friends reception and it was a blast. They now advertise it as a wedding venue.
The only sticking point is that the harbour is full of dredgers and tugs, most of which seem to be parked next to or in front of Fenwick Pier.

I just went to a wedding at The Repulse Bay, held outside on the lawn with a dinner inside the restaurant. Tremendously elegant, it was stunning....but on the down-side, the traffic from the street created some disturbing noise during the ceremony, and the sound system was surprisingly amateurish...I don't know if the sound system was provided by the Repulse Bay people or whether it was brought in from outside, but it was grossly inadequate.

Hi,
Just in case anyone is looking for a Western style String Quartet please get in touch with me. We have played at many of the lovely venues (Aberdeen Marina Club beside Ocean Park is very Romantic IMHO!) and can provide music that is arranged specially for you. My husband is Chinese and I am English - I'm a cellist freelancing with City Chamber and Sinfonietta.
Contact us at info@serenademusicle.com or call me (Rosie) on 9667 9377 or my husband Spencer 9435 2277. Good luck with the organising!
