Hi,
Does anyone have any direct experience with hair extensions from hipfish in Hong kong? I read about them some time ago, in HK Magazine, I think...but would dearly love to hear either a recommendation or non-recommendation from someone who has been there. Thanks!

I can honestly recommend Hip Fish - I have been seeing Patrick there for 5 years - everyone there is very friendly and professional.

Good to hear positive comments about Hipp Fish - however we've got a couple of the best stylists in HK who have supported AsiaXPAT for years - let's throw some support their way:

Ed, I've been going to Paul Gerrard's for years, and I love the people there; I've also had excellent experiences at The Hairdressers. But I know that Paul doesn't offer hair extensions at his salon; which is why my question is directed at a place that specifically does them. Not sure about The Hairdresser's....Glad they both support AsiaXPAT, maybe you can hit up Hipp Fish for support since people are talking about them here...

A friend of mine had extensions done in Hippfish and they looked great!

May know where is the location? And how much do they charge?

I had my extentions done at hippfish last month it cost me about $3000.

Joanna, what type of hair extensions are they, and how satisfied are you? Did they use separate pieces, or one big piece sort of sewn into your hair? I've had this method where lots of very small sections were attached to my hair with small metal beads--it looked great but as you can imagine, did NOT feel very comfortable...
Thanks for the info!

Hi ladies, I just wanted to mention that when doing extensions the cost is usually determined by the amount of hair used and the time it takes to put them in. One person having a full head may use more hair than another so the costs can vary.
On that note I have a couple of young technitians who have been trained to do hairextensions thus can charge better rates. Consultations would be needed to determine the cost but I am trying to keep the costs between 2k - 4K. Contact The Hairdressers if you want anya more info.

Jonathan at Hippfish is fantastic - have been going to him for several years and everything he's done (cutting, colouring, hair extensions, straightening) has been excellent.

I am soooo disapointed. I have been going to Patrick at Hip Fish for well over a year and was very happy. The last time I went he did not bother to blow dry my hair as he had another customer waiting and asked the shampooist to blow dry my hair - it looked horific. I left the saloon running so I could get home and wash my hair. I feel that I don't pay those prices for the shampooist who has no experience with my type of hair to blow dry it - I won't be going again. Can anyone recommend another hairdresser who is great with curly hair? Or do you think I am being unfair?

I hope some of you can advice. My hair is getting thinner by the day especially since I had my second boy. I have heard about hair extensions before but now really know what they are or how does it work. Can any one provide me a crash course on what is it and if I can do it myself or do I have to go to the hairdressors and also how much does it usually cost?
Thanks

Nix, can you tell us about the hair extensions you got--what sort were they, how long did it take to put them in, was there a delay while they ordered the right color, how long did they last, how did it look, etc? Thanks so much!

Cheu, you might want to try Regaine for women--it's a topical lotion you put on your scalp and it restores hair loss...scientifically proven, not some mumbo-jumbo....

I'm sorry. I'm still confused. Where is Hip Fish? Has anybody said yet. Sorry to be thick.....

hi rachaelhk, sorry for my late reply. I got a few blonde extensions as highlights (rather than to lengthen my hair). Didn't take very long to put them in, I guess I was there for about 2 hours, but I also had a colour and wash and blow dry. No delay for the colour I wanted. They look great. Not sure how long they last (Jonathan said 2-3 months, I've only had them in a few weeks so far). Best bet is to go along for a free consultation.
Patacas - Hippfish is on Elgin Street

Why not try 'The Firm' in The Centrium, Wyndham St? I've seen their great work although I haven't had extensions done myself. You do get a great head massage rather than just a wash!!Their number is 2525 6696
