Food Allergies

My 10 month old has not had egg whites yet, am planning on introducing the whole egg when she becomes one yr. Many books list bread and pasta as appropriate finger food for babies, yet don't these products contain eggs? And then why aren't bread and pasta problematic as far as egg allergies go??

The pasta I buy is durum semolina and it is mixed with water - it's dry pasta. So no egg in it. The "fresh" pasta, which isn't dry tends to have egg in it as well as some other noodle variety.

Not all breads contain eggs - perhaps you can find one that doesn't have egg in it.

Unless food allergies run in your family, I wouldn't stress over bread. However, if you are concerned, french bread doesn't contain any egg.

I never stressed over trace amounts of these types of foods when I was introducing solids. But then, who am I to talk since one of mine developed severe allergies including allergy to egg and milk. (To be honest, I think an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! My pediatrician is very slow to introduce protein foods such as milk and eggs.) To cope with my daughter's allergies, I read ingredient labels with a fine tooth comb. I can usually find pasta and bread that doesn't contain milk, but I have to read the labels to find out. If there's no English label, I ask someone else to read the label for me.

It's OK to serve a baby after 6 months the egg yolk, the main concern is egg white. Besides, not all bread and pasta contain egg as raw ingredients. It's better to check the ingredient list.
