Octopus card at Welcome?

ORIGINAL POST

Every time I go to Welcome, the cashier points to some kind of Octopus card sensor and asks me if I want to do something with my Octopus card.

Would love to ask the cashier, but they usually don't speak English.

Does anyone know what that's all about?

You can use your Octopus card to pay for your shopping. If you do, place it on the reader.

Oh...thanks.

Such small things can make you feel so stupid when you don't speak the language!

Magic - It's a promotion, but I don't think in this case you need to PAY for your groceries with the card. I think you just get the bonuses there. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure you do not have to pay with your Octopus to get in on the promotion. You do have to sign up for it though, before you can participate.

You get points every time you shop which you can save up and when you have enough they give you wellcome dollars which you can shop at wellome with. The amount of points comes up on your receipt when you shop but you must register first they will give you application form at wellcome. You must put your octopus card to process every time you buy, also some other stores

do it I know mannings also does it.It soon adds up,the lady at wellcome told me and I got a few hundred wellome dollars to shop with,I also had no idea .

The octopus card promotion is an added value promotion - you can register your card at Wellcome in sai kung at a little machine so i assume they are in other stores, which would mean you can still enter

Nope excited, I registered last year, & so far have only received 1 promo from them & that was a happy new year wish...I just present my octopus card everytime to get reward points...but watch out...have learned to brandish money at the same time as the card, as I proffered my card first & the cashier debited my card & consequently pretty much wiped out my ocopus card value...another trip to MTR to top up again!

You can get your Octopus to reload automatically from your credit card a/c, to save you that trip to the MTR (or, worse, the thing dying on a rural bus that doesn't give change, so you have to pay $100 for a $5 trip, if you can't find a taxi...).

you can register at www.octopuscards.com.

after you register online, you have to register again at a designated off-line site after 48 hours. (they give you a bunch of wellcome stores that have the registering terminals)
