Draino?

I've used a product in Australia called Draino. It's a collection of chemical crystals you put down the sink to "eat" unwanted hair and other gremlins.

Is there an equivalent here? The plunger just isn't working.

Yes there is - most 'hardware' stores sell it as do those shops that have everything in them "mini Kmarts" if you are near Sai Kung I can tell you where to buy it. The stuff i use is called "Eliminate drain pipe cleaner" it does not have any chinese on the label so it must be imported or made for export. about $15 a bottle.

Draino and Liquid Plumber are at PnS and Wellcome.

There is also the super strong one you can get at the shops that Dimac4 mentions - with the one we used we had to be careful not to let it touch the paint or side of tub it was powerful. I have ot say mu husband worried it might eat the plastic pipes! But it worked great.

For the strong one, there is not much in the way of labelling, but be aware not to stick your head over the drain as you pour it in; the smell is noxious and you def don't want that in your eyes/nose. Works like a charm though!

Thankyou so much. I've had enough of trying to shower in a rapidly filling bath!!

Will keep an eye out at PnS.

We've got a TASTE here, they dont seem to stock any.

Cheers all

Yes the Eliminate will stain everything (correction - corrode) everything in its path - it destroyed our incinkerator rubber flaps when the maid (sigh) just poured it on down there....and then corroded the sink with the over spill - but the drains were cleared! ;-)

Be careful - there are weekly stories in local papers of people who've got eye injuries from splashes of these chemicals. Wear goggles or get a pro to do it.

just used that elimanate stuff yesterday...it was the strongest i have ever seen. The drain started bubbling and steaming once its poured in....highly recomended, Draino is nothing compared to this

Japan Home Center usually sells that cheap powerful stuff, along with more mainstream brand name products. This thread is quite old, and I don't think the product they mentioned above is still sold, but they have the equivalent, which is a white bottle of brown liquid with a red label on it. Around $15. It's also quite strong and nasty...

Check their website for locations.

Otherwise you can try any other traditional home products street shops. There are a few in the popular streets in Sheung Wan, for instance.

"Eliminate" is definitely the stuff. Japan Home has it as mentioned, as well as hardware stores.
