OK, which product actually smooths skin on your face, and makes pores appear smoother and provides overall evenness? I hear La mer is good - but its so expensive - if it actually works, then maybe...

I haven't tried La Mer, but I'm currently using Botocare, also from Switzerland. its also for smoothing lines. I first had the facial done and I liked the way it felt on y face, so I bought the products to use at home. I bought the serum for $1,200 at Harvey Nichols. Hope this helps.

La Mer is not a miracle cream and I only use it when I have allergies because it's gentle enough. The secret is good skin is sticking to a routine and the most important thing is keeping it clean.

I would suggest any woman - whether or not she's found the perfect skin care routine - to beg, steal (ok not steal), borrow or buy Dr Leslie Baumann's book "The Skin Type Solution". She's a well known dermatologist (as seen on tv) who has developed a system of skin typing which has sixteen different combinations.


In the book she gives a skin care routine for each skin combos plus recommended products. These products range in price from $ to $$$ so you can pick according to your budget, and any personal skin problems as she points out not every product is 100% ideal for everyone with that particular skin type.


It certainly narrows down the selection process - and the waste. Who hasn't spent $$$ on a product only to find it make things worse.


Dr Baumann is a firm believer in Botox and prescriptive retinoids but also believes you should do what you are comfortable with. So you can follow a great skin care routine without resorting to those things.


I found Dr Baumann sorted through the minefield of products and now I can happily bypass all those department store counters and their pushy salespeople. And yes, I have noticed a definite improvement in my very troublesome skin.

i just want to say THANK YOU to claire for her advice about dr. baumann's book The Skin Type Solution. (see claire's post, above.) it is a fantastic book. i too have extremely sensitive skin, but now there is light at the end of the tunnel.
