Which Maclaren pushchair?

ORIGINAL POST

I am going to buy a Maclaren pushchair, but which one??? I need a lightweight, easy to fold, durable buggy.

My little one is nearly 1, he often falls asleep on the go so it needs to recline. I have heard about the Quest, Techno, Volo etc. There are too many to choose from. Which one should I get?

techno - reclines the furthest - but is heavier - suitable from newborn up.

quest - reclines not 180 degrees but a good enough recline that both of my girls (age 6 months and 2.5 years) sleep well in it. Suitable from 3 months up.

triumph - reclines, not as far as the quest but also has a recline.

volo -the lightest weight - no recline at all.

I have found the quest perfect for my recline needs and it is relatively lightweight, but very durable. Both of my girls love it and my older one can easily climb into hers herself and climb out when she needs to.

To mum to be- the Techno has more padding than the Quest does - so that may be your "comfy" issue - but it does add weight. Neither of my kids have had a hard time falling asleep in their quests. (We have two.)

We use the quest as well, it is comfortable enough for our baby, but for exrta comfort, you can add a favourite soft blanket, or spend more money and buy the sheepskin that goes with it...

The negative of all of these is the silly mesh basket underneath - you can't access it when chair is even partially reclined!

Also vote for the Techno XT. Have never had a problem unfolding with 1 hand, but do need 2 hands to recline. The recline was worth the extra weight for us, as our children often had afternoon naps in it.

have you set your heart on a maclaren? if not combi ones are good if you want a lightweight model - with a few practices you can shut and open the pram with one hand!

mum - we have the xt and love it, baby naps in it too. after going round and round with trying to figure out what was the best stroller for us, we did a spreadsheet comparing all. chose the xt. a few of the other maclaren's are only slightly lighter but i can't remember specifics. i only have a hardcopy of the spreadsheet, but if you're going to be around and would like to check it out, let me know and we'll look for it again; it's been lent out a couple of times. (i think you're in skung, right?)

combis are overall SMALLER. Maclarens can hold you baby up to 25 KG (my daughter who is now 2.5 can STILL fit into it, very comfortably and it doesn't look small.) Because the combi's are smaller, they are lighter and can fold up more compactly. Some really lightweight ones weigh in at less than 4 KG.

I didn't like the combi's though, because I wanted a stroller for longevity - I found combis to be a bit shorter in the handle (I'm not super tall but tall enough) and the combis didn't feel as stable to me. (just pushing it felt more fragile.) I would highly recommend you go and check it out however - the top of the line combi's can cost in the $4000+ range - more recline options and a lot more bells and whistles.

I have a combi and I love it. Full recline, full sunshade (all the way down to the cross rail), comfy padded seat, just 2.5 kg, and my daughter at 3 still fits just fine though she's on the small side for her age.

I'd buy ours all over again as it's been perfect for our needs, BUT, we aren't big buggy users. Ours goes on and off airplanes, to Stanley and Disneyland, and other than that it pretty much sits in the boot.

Before she was walking, she spent far more time in the bjorn and after that I just encouraged her to walk, or I'd hoist her up on a hip for a bit.

As hkcc pointed out, the mac's are more durable, better for longer walks (bowen road, lugard trail), better for taller people, better for bigger toddlers and better for frequent buggy users. I don't know why they've skimped so much on their sunshade though, I find that pretty annoying about the macs (and about most buggies for that matter)
