Hi, I am a new mother and looking for a high chair. Anything I need to pay attention to when buying? What are good brands? Does some-one maybe sell a second-hand one?

I looked at lots, read reviews, saw features - then someone gave me a 10 year old Mothercare chair with NO features - works great.
It should be easy to clean, the straps and seat cover should come off to wash easily - ours doesn't but we survive (although that is the one feature I really wish we had!!)
If you want to spend lots, the Stokke one looks amazing and parents seem to love it.
I would avoid anything with too many features - as they are bound to break or go wrong or not get used :)

I have 3 high chairs, 2 were worth every penny and one was a waste of money.
For littler babies who still need support sitting up and for whom retaining straps are helpful, the Fisher Price Heathy Care high chair (available at Toys R Us) is an excellent and inexpensive choice. Many other highchairs are too big for the little babies and you end out stuffing all the extra space with towels that just end out needing to be washed every meal.
Once yours gets bigger and can sit quite well (in our case ~2 yrs), the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair is fabulous for comfort, fit and proper posture. It's fully adjustable, and when they finally move to an adult's dining chair, it can become your desk chair.
There are generally also highchairs on the Trading Post (under "Resources")

my baby had a Stokke Tripp Trapp since 6 months and she's 2.5 now. the chair can be used for as big as she can grow. it's definitely the best high chair i ever seen, tho a bit more expensive.
available in mothercare.

Have 2 Stokke Tripp Trapps. More expensive, but better value as my 4 year old is still using hers and probably will do so for years to come. 18 month old can escape from every seat except this one. Also means that the children eat from the same table as deveryone else.

Wait a little while :-)
I think a lot of 10 mo olds sit more happily with full back support and a five point harness. And a wrap around tray they can smear their food around on.
