I need to find a flight back to HKG after Christmas or New Year's, but my family chose to celebrate with the Atlanta, Georgia branch of the 'tree'. Atlanta's apparently not a great port for Asian international travel (dang, should I just go to Jamaica?!)
SO I need to fly somewhere else first and then fly back here from there. Any opinions on the best ports, especially price-wise? Connection time doesn't matter. I'm sure I know someone in the major cities! Of course, I'd love if your answer were LAX...

There's a connection via Delta that goes ATL-LAX-NRT-HKG . This summer when I looked, American also had a good connection. Look at zuji.com and put in flexible dates

Seems to me that Korean flew my mother out of the US via Atlanta - and I have found Korean to be very competitive on price, superior on service, and the fastest way to the US (I have gone to DC, NYC, and SFO (or was it LAX?) Don't know how good their connections are to HK - but I can guess. (The Delta flight you reference may be a code share with Korean, at least part of the way.)
