Just wondering if it was ok for a Caucasian to wear a red colored dress to a Chinese Wedding in HK? What are the colors that guests should not wear? Thanks.

Don't wear complete white.

Many chinese guests have worn black but it is evening / c*cktail dress with a bit of colour eg. pashmina shawl.

Wearing Red dress ? DEFINATE NO....it is the bride who wears RED. Wearing a red dress is drawing attention to yourself, and everyone will criticise you silently for "trying " to steal the brides day.

The mothers of both parties can wear red...but guest is a no no....

from someone who is from HK and who has been to over 30 chinese weddings

Thanks for all of your responses and help. I will probably wear a strapless dark charcoal dress similar to the style Victoria Beckham wore to the TomKat Wedding.

That is even attention getting, let the bride shine on that day by wearing something simpler.

They will also criticize you silently.

Strapless is toooo much, unless you wear a shawl.

At chinese weddings, only the wedding party bride bridesmaids get away with strapless.

Unless you are siting on a completely western table, you will feel very uncomfortable wearing strapless, unless you want the extra attention.
