We have friends coming to visit over the holidays and want to take them to a party on New Years Eve. Someone last year suggested going to the Viceroy for their Las Vegas ball, but I'm not sure if this is going on again this year. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good party on Dec. 31st? I know we probably need to start thinking about booking tickets, etc.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, Viceroy are doing their usual NYE bash, just a different theme. Had the details emailed to us but can't remember what this year's theme is. Give them a call as you'll will have to book asap, I would imagine.

What IS NYE like here?
okay, that was vague... um, are there like major shee-shee foo-foo parties that you just must be on the guestlist for? Do clubs charge exhorbitant cover charges? How crazy do the streets get... and where? Do any 'balls' drop? Where? How early do people start, and I'm certian they do, queueing up for street festivities? How cold does it get!?!? (Caribbean-climated person asking this question.) Is HK on NYE worth coming back fomr a visit home early for or should I just extend my trip?

I would say it depends on who you are spending it with, and where you are. Is it worth coming back to HK for? ... Again, depends who you're likely to have more fun with ... family ... or friends?
Most people I know spend NYE either at a friends party, or at a club if they are members, which is what we always do. Many people hang out in places like LKF, and I would imagine a good time is had by all! But one year, when we had visitors, we went to a hotel which had a special NYE dinner with drinks included (yes, very pricey!) ... it was nice but lacked atmosphere, and shortly after midnight the evening was over ... not the kind of NYE we were used to!
The weather is usually quite mild (been here for 6 years and only remember one year when it was very cold). In fact, the club where we are members, usually have their NYE party outdoors, and we're normally fine just wearing a sweater ... but you never can tell ... this year may colder!

Okay, what is with the Member Only Clubs? What ARE those? What are the benefits? What are the fees? What's the purpose? Are they like snooty Country Clubs?

VERO CHOCOLATES AT FENWICK PIER. I attended their party last year and it was so amazing. They have a chocolate lounge that faces the water and has a perfect, front row, INDOOR, view of the firework show. PLUS, they serve free-flowing drinks and have a bunch of amazing sponsors that give out fabulous prizes. This year they have 3 dj's instead of just one. I went with my friends last year and am taking my boyfriend and his parents this year.
Tickets are $500 a pop. Call them up for more info at 2559 5882 or 2559 5810.
