I noticed that a lot of you are inquiring about where to get certain things and are looking for good deals. Well, I have a suggestion... Why don't all of you form a weekend shopping trip to shenzhen, I realized all the things mentioned can be found just over the border and they are cheap too. You can have fun hanging out as a group, meeting new friends, save a bundle, enjoy a nice seafood dinner after shopping at fraction of the cost and overall a nice day trip away from the city...

That sounds like a fantastic great time. Count me in. That could really be an experience to write about and follow up on.

These days you'll find there is no savings in Shenzhen for regular items.
What you will find cheap are service related items (tailoring, curtain making) and pirated goods.
I used to buy things like bathroom fixtures in shenzhen, but now I'd be far better off saving the train fare and visa and buying in Wanchai.

Well, there are more places beyond the Lo Wu shopping Mall. Of Course you will get the worse quality products, why??? Because tourist don't usually send back returns or get exchange.
Well, try to go right into the city and you will find it totally difference. You just have to go thru the experience and you will be more assured on what you think about shopping in Shenzhen... Like I said, it isn't just for the shopping, it also a nice trip away from the congested HK city. My suggestion is to try Wa Keung Bei, export district central of Shenzhen where you will find good quality stuffs and very good price, but make sure to negotiate.

Poor man, your light fixtures, where did you go to buy them before??? Do you know HKG contractors are the biggest buyers in Shenzhen. I guess you were at the wrong place...Like I said, you need to travel right into the city, the border areas are for suckers. May be an educational show and tell is in order... If there is someone out there like to take up the task of organizing a gather, I am more than happy to join and show you what I am talking about...

OK I stand corrected. However, as an American I can't get a visa easily any more, and as I'm working 2 jobs and I'm a weekend dad I have no time to go. But don't let me discourage others...

Bayliner, what can you buy in Wa Keung Bei,?
Please support our advertisers:
You can find item clothings in Amercian sizes, real brand name stuff at surplus prices (cheap). Computers, parts and accessories (an entire building for it), Cell phone, electronics etc. The areas is filled with professionals, nothing like Lo Wu or Dongmen where you see baggers after pick pockers. The security is tight there with a lot of under cover police officers. There is mutiple level buildings that sells all woman clothings/accessories, kids and Men....
A worth while trip there for shopping and excellence restaurants for dining....

Bayliner 1901,
when is your next shopping spree planned ?
I'm not interested in fakes, nor in DVD, but would love to buy real stuff (even rejected exports with minor defaults or last year's do the trick for me) or have a good tailor make me a dress...
If you have any recommandation, pls. PM me or post a reply on the thread.
Thanks
mayita

Because I wear XL US size clothings, I can't find the locally made fits my size. Although they say XXXL, but they are probably for locals. So instead, I found a few places in (华强北) that sells export things, either they are out of style or surplus, but they fit well and price slashed. As far as for tailor made stuff, I go to this place in Dongmen, the mall's set up is identical to Lo Wu Mall, but the price is some what cheaper and quality depends on the fabric you provide them. Handmanship is not bad... I always bring my overseas friends there to make their suits and dresses... May be perhaps we can arrange a day of joint shopping one of upcoming weekends...depending on my schedule as I currently works back and forth from one place to another..

I'd love to do that....
I'll PM you
