Merry Christmas everyone! 2 questions for all who love christmas and food, not necessarily in that order.

1. Is there any price/quality difference in buying a frozen turkey at various supermarkets?

2. Can anyone recommend a vegetarian alternative to the traditional turkey&co?

Love your second question!

First of all, don't make the vegetarian stand out too much.

If you are serving turkey, stuffing, veggies and gravy...

Be sure the vegetables are vegetarian (ie, not cooked in meat broth).

Offer a vegetarian stuffing (even if it is from a box) and a vegetarian gravy (OXO is fine).

This way the vegetarian can have everything, except the Turkey. And it won't take much extra time to make a veggie stuffing and veggie gravy just for that person.

If there are a few veggies attending, then you could try making an alternative main dish for them to offer as an alternative to the Turkey for them, such as:

a nut roast

a lentil roast

grilled stuffed portabelo mushrooms

vegetarian lasagna.

You can google vegetarian christmas menu or vegetarian thankgsiving menu for ideas, as well as checking the regular recipe sites like www.epicurious.com

Enjoy!

(and I really hope our christmas dinner hosts are as thoughtful as you!)

How about goats' cheese and cranberry parcels to start (everyone can enjoy those too), followed by a Mushroom Wellington served with parsnips with a maple glaze (again everyone can eat that) or a Chestnut, Spinach and Mushroom Filo Torte with tomato and ginger coulis.

Ask a Chinese vegetarian restaurant to do you a vegetarian turkey (just an idea)
