I imported a car a few years ago and, while it wasn't a classic, the literature I went through did highlight how to deal with imports of classics.
If the car is more than 20 years old, and has its original engine, it is not subject to current emissions standards. If you have new engine in the car, it must meet current standards.
I will send you a PM with details of who I used to handle the whole process. I basically handed them the documents before the ship arrived, and they handled everything from off-loading the container, to having it emission tested, to licencing and registration, right through to licence plates and delivering it to my door.
You might also want to read through the following:

I hope that helps.

StKilda Beach, let me know how you go, as wouldn't mind bringing my GT into HK if I'm staying any longer.

Hi Conordec, what should of GT have you got?
Please support our advertisers:
That sounds great! What about some Holdens? I just love aussie muscles, used to have a VC and VH Brock, only recently sold me Walkinshaw. I reckon even some new HSV's or a FPV Typhoon Ute would be cool.

lol....
unfortunately... it takes a bit of money now to own these cars.....
and i wouldn't like to try fighting to get through traffic considering my last spare guard for my xagt i sold on ebay for 2000 aus $ (didn't need it as sold the car.)
my xwgt is here, just got back from aus and had a ball in it.
heres a photo taken last week in queensland.

as for monaro's... well i am waiting for an offer i put in to an older fella for his LE monaro, the maroon and gold ones, think 76??? will see if he's keen to sell... one of the, "don't know how much it's worth" types so i may be lucky.

St Kilda, my GT is actually a reef green colour, just in the light it looks a bit greyish, like seaweed. (hence reef green.)
as for owning a phase III, unless you have AUS$400,000+ you won't find one.
See attached a link from the news this year regarding prices....

I do know of one for sale at the moment, he's asking AUS$400,000.
I'm a member of the GT Club of australia, and the prices have just gone out of control, there are also alot of dodgy cars out there now, that many that most cars are being xrayed for numbers and chop jobs.
There was a mustang for sale in HK recently, rhd, and rebuilt, wanted around AUS$40k for it.
heres a couple of sites with prices current at the moment in aus.

Thats one beautiful GT you've got. There used to a dealer who imported HSV's here and they've still got one! I think its a VT II which makes it a 99/00 model. It's been advertised as a "Brand New HSV Clubsport R8" in fact its got the Supercharged V6 in it. No wonder it's still around.
An new VE HSV GTS here would be great, 6.0l manual with 400bhp, cooler then driving around in a all too common M3. You are right, servicing would be an issue.
VK Group A's has been going up since Brockies death. Now, a Group A (group 3)with the rear headrest, white Aeros and T5G would be very nice.
Walkinshaw's are still relative good value, I sold mine in 2004 with 140k, but a good one for $25,000. Loved the car and should have kept it.
What do you guys drive in HK?
Please support our advertisers:
lol... i don't have a car here... just can't see the reason for one i guess.
my attitude is "i'm here to make money, not spend it!!"
although i love driving, just got back from aus, nothing better than running the gt along the coast.

hmmmmmmm, the walky's don't do it for me, not what i class a muscle car, too much plastic.
this car next to mine is the only 1 of 3 2 door black with white interior xagt rpo's left... could have had it 2 yrs ago for 60k, now valued at 200k+.... hindsight....

Its a VT II Clubie R8, full body kit but XU6 motor. Supercharged V6 180 Kw, 4 speed auto not the Gen III 255 engine. This car would be worth $20,000 in Aus. XU6's were very unpopular. The dealer is asking HK$298,000, they are dreaming!!!
Please support our advertisers:
Yes, they are dreaming! Waste of time, all looks with no go. Buy the car for HKD$100, shell value then drop a Gen IV in it, supercharge it and a 6 speed. If it's been parked in-doors the body would be nice.
They've had it for that long, they may just about take any offer I reckon. The V6 would may a great anchor!

st kilda beach,
i don't think i will bring my xwgt over here, and be VERY careful of buying any gt without proper inspection.
for example, this car sold
http://www.australianmusclecarsales.com.au/muscle/87543
for 70k in australia in the last month, i hope the buyer knew that the numbers on the front end had been recently "applied" and also the id tags were "re-done" as that car had "lost" its matching numbers many many moons ago.
there is a register in safe hands of all the butchered and "rebodied" cars, it definitely does pay to do your homework as in my eyes, that white car shouldn't have pulled past 25k.
if you find a car you want to pursue, let me know and i will run the numbers past probably the most gt informed individual via email.
ps.... heres my old xagt....
