My New Year Resolution is to start budgeting with my helper after spending almost HK$7,000 - $8,000 per month (excluding helper's salary & DOG FOOD) for general grocery, market expenses. I have been quite amazed with this figure since we are only home for dinner about 2-4 times a week (never extravagant since my helper usually cooks simple Chinese & Western). We have two adults in our family and my helper is always on a diet. Not buying from City Super just from a well-stocked Park n'shop that all families buy from (not top meat, wine, dessert). All I hear from my friends is that they spend only around $6,000 p.m. for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids.
Can someone share their figure as reference for me?

Thanks girls! Special thanks to Green & Saikunga. We have actually many great people here who provides great advice but it's a pity that some people abuse them by leaving rude messages.
I'll be going there to pick up a 50lb bread flour from Tai Po for my breadmaker. It will surely save me a lot.

Where is everyone eating and buying groceries? I live by myself (except on wkends when my girlfriend) comes down from her job in Guanzhou, when I take her out for dinner plus cook for her while we're at home. My grocery expenses are $250-300 a week, so about $1000-1200 a month for 1 person. Going out for 2 maybe adds $400 max a month. Extrapolating to 3 adults, that's just over $4000 on the max side, and I am definitely NOT a small guy!
Also, during the summer I found that by being as skimpy as possible I could get my monthly food expenses to about $1000 a month including groceries and going out. This is by going shopping almost exclusively at a Park'n'Shop in Tai Po.
I guess it just depends on what you're standards are for eating.

hi, green,
can you please pm me your frozen food contact, too.
am also expecting a second baby mid this year and my husband and i were just discussing about household expense. We seem to be in line with the HK$6000 most people have mentioned (food and household items). We shop mainly at PNS and Wellcome but recently, my new helper tried to buy seafood and veggies from the market near us. The veggies seem more expensive than PNS but you get more variety - some things which are not always at PNS.
I do buy organic stuff and hormone-free meats from Citysuper for our 13 month old and have been doing so since she started solid meals.
Now we are also going to move to fresh milk (Pura) and i've heard that costs more than formula.
I was telling my hubby that i think we're pretty middle of the road when it comes to food and household expense - i think we need to find bigger things to save on like electricity (shot up when we had our baby because one more room with either heater or a/c and lights) and gas bills.
Sorry to go on. ..

Green (or anyone else who has the address): Go ahead and post it here. It seems like there are enough people interested, and its not a distasteful post, and there has already been one address posted in this thread without the roof falling in. I think Ed would be a bit cranky for slapping anyone's wrist.
Or else email it to me and I'll post it, and take my lickin.
