Hi we are a family about to move to Hong Kong in april and have 3 girls 10, 7, and 3 we originally thought living on the island near repulse bay/ stanley/ Tai tam would be good but our first choice of school would be the Australian international school and it's too far for them to travel. So we are thinking clear water bay, my husband will be working in Central. Does anyone have kids at the Aust. int. school, or know it? The school thing is really stressing me...do we find a great place to live and then a school or the other way around??? Help1!

Was in the same position as you when I first got here a year ago. You should definately look for the school first and then work your way around where to live. You can always find a suitable place to live in any area, it's the schooling here that is a bit of a headache unless your husband's company has a debenture or can guarantee your children a spot in the school, definately start looking now. Keep in mind majority of the international schools are on Hong Kong Island. I have friends that moved out to Clearwater Bay but ended up having to drive their children to school here to HKIS and Canadian Int'l anyway. Good Luck!!
Good Luck...

That's correct...start with the school first. Send me a private message with your e-mail address and I can offer some further advice.

Thanks for that. I hope to visit the Canadian Int'l, HKIS, and GSIS and Aust.Int'l on a quick trip over in a few weeks and if they don't get into one of those....who knows. I know about the ESF schools but that would mean I would have 3 at 3 diff. schools. Anyway thanks for your help.

There are a lot of kids in Clearwater Bay that go to the Australian school. It would take them around 30 mins or so on the school bus because of pick ups,15-20 mins by car, Your husband could be in Central in 30 mins too.

Does the Aust. school have a good reputation? And with 3 children what are the facilites like in Clearwater Bay? Are there specific areas that I should look at? tqqb, i am currently trying to work out how to send a private message as I have just joined up and not quite sure what I am doing. I shall try.

What do you mean by facilities? There are few in Clearwater bay apart from beaches, country park, walking, etc, but within a short drive there are football, rugby, dance classes, swimming pool, library, cinema, shops, parks, mini motor biking, windsurfing, tennis etc.

I live in Clearwater Bay, lots of neighbours and my piano students go to Australian Int'l school. Seems pretty good, beautiful campus and good facilities. School bus form Clearwater Bay every morning seen here....
We are members of the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, it's a nice place for families with kids, and those who enjoy sports. Sai Kung is very good too, 15 minute drive.... lots of expats here.

I also would like my son, 5 , to go to the Australian International School. We are an Aussie family living currently in the US. Our move will be within 6 Months.
Where is a good place to stay in Clearwater? I am looking but have yet to find anything available.
Kindest Regards,
Mandy

Dear Saikunga,
Thanks for replying. Yes there is a space for him. Nothing is official yet so I cannot say I will take the space in case my husbands employment package is not acceptable. This will be our 3rd International move withing 3 years and our son is a Type 1 Diabetic. Lots of things to be considered.
Kindest Thoughts,
mandy

Hi, I am contemplating moving from HK Island tiny apartment to house in Chi Fai Path, Tsai Mong Tai. I have 4 sons (2 teens and 2 little ones). I work in Candian Int'l school so will drive the three of them there with me every day and come home so not a problem. What about travelling from Chi Fai Path to Sai Kung Town Centre - it seems the buses are not that frequent. The boys are capable to take MTR/Bus so I guess that should be okay. Can you recommend any kindergartens for my 3 year old? Excited but very nervous. Few friends have also told me to beware of burgularies in Sai Kung - is this true or just scaremongering? Thanks for your advice.... much appreciated.

My 4 year-old goes to New Song Kindy, which is in Floral Villas, can't say enough great things about it, the school and its teachers are divine!

Hi, my husband and I along with our 4 year old daughter are very new to HK (5 weeks). My daughter started in Reception at AISHK just this week and she loves it. Everyone has been really kind and very helpful. We are living at One Beacon Hill which is just up the road about a 10-15 minute walk from the school. It's very comfortable and quiet complex. We have a shuttle bus in the complex every 30 minutes to Kowloon Tong station and the school bus also comes to the complex. Everything is within easy reach. We chose this area as it we worked around our Australian Int School and didn't want the extra responsibility of a car just yet, until we felt more settled and familiar with the country. The public transport (including taxi's) system is so great we haven't had any problems at all. I have had all positive experiences so far!

This sounds great!I posted another threat about burgularies in Sai Kung and am really worried about the responses. Looks like this is a bigger issue than I realised... any idea on this?
