IMHO, i prefer amazon.co.uk as it's with me in 4 days max.

Paddyfield has always worked out cheapest for books - they are based in HK. The only issue can be when they don't have the book you want in stock they need to order it and it can take a few weeks, but they have a lot in stock.
As for Amazon.co.uk or .com - you need to compare total cost fot what you want to order, it varies as to which is cheaper.

If time is not an issue, I agree with CRJ.
I have filled dummy shopping carts with the same books at Amazon and Paddyfield - and Paddyfield is always cheaper. With Paddyfield, you can get free delivery for an order of $150+, great for smaller orders. I use Amazon UK to double check the ISBN for ordering on Paddyfield to ensure I get the right edition.

I'll have to try Paddyfield. I've used both amazons before as title prices vary between them, but whatever you do, don't order from amazon canada. I placed an order in January for a book that was in stock and they estimate it will arrive March 16th!!!!

Just a thought:
When I shop through Amazon.de, they always reimburse VAT, which usually covers more than the shipping costs. But Amazon never tells me that online! I only receive a reduced invoice when the books arrive. I suspect Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com would do the same.

Of course Amazon.com won't put a VAT on any order; it's based in the US which doesn't have VAT. Another issue is the exchange rate; right now the dollar is very low against the pound.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. I will try the dummy shopping cart thing and send an email to amazon about VAT. Will report back here of course! I am after "Delia's how to cook" parts 1 and 2 - think it would help me. (useless cook)Really good price on amazon but wont ship to HK for some reason. Expensive on Paddyfield. Anyone got any ideas? Are there good second hand book shops selling english books? / can I get them somewhere else? / has anyone seen them cheap at any of the big book shops in HK by chance?

.co.uk is cheap at the moment as the $ is so low.
no benefit to buying from Jersey - in fact often it works out more for non-Eu residents because we dont pay the VAT anyway. Jersey is there for a UK tax dodge, not sure how they get away with it tho.
flip side is that DVDs etc are usually cheaperr in teh US

Although the British pound is so strong right now, amazon.co.uk works out cheaper for what I want. Apart from Paddyfield - does anyone know where I can get Delia Smith cook books? for some reason amazon wont ship these tomes to Hong Kong! Paddyfield works out quite expensive.

Try Dymocks and Bookazine - they both tend to have a good selection of cookbooks.
Also, check out the Recipe Forum, as there is a thread on cookbooks that has some good ideas and websites (instead of books).

Shahirakk do you go back to the UK often??? I often buy from Amazon and get stuff sent to my mum and she either brings it over or I bring it when I visit!! How desperate are you?

All three (hardbook) are listed on Swindon's web site.
You can do a search on this forum for Secondhand bookshops.
