even though my income level is above minimum requirement? is it bcos i was only here for <6 mths? dunno whether i shld name the bank, but it is not a local bank.

no, i didnt ask. i was really busy then, though i was always wondering. i had problem earlier with Citibank too, but then that was when i was barely 1 mth in HK.

When applying for a mortgage recently i did a comparison of Std Chd,HSBC ,Citibank and the more "local" banks like BEA/Wing Hang etc
to cut it short HSBC etc have high charges and rubbish service
Bank of East Asia gave me a prompt service ,great mortgage rate and much cheaper fees and charges ,
i never can understand the popularity of HSBC

jwm, thanks for the recommendation, but i just want to ask around first to see if i am the unique case or is there some other similar cases -- after all, isnt this forum about sharing experiences? in addition,i have also read/heard/come across similar cases like Island Hopper, or them simply saying "it's our credit risk policy" and full stop. But nonetheless u have injected some confidence in me, and i will go and ask them. Will share the experience later.
