I bought Chu Chu glass bottles and my daughter (4 month old)refuses to suck from it. Anyone knows if I should enlarge the teat hole with the "pricking thingy" that comes with the bottle? The instructions are in Japanese so I am not too sure what I should do. I've been using Dr Brown's bottles before this and I'm switching to Chu Chu because of recent news about the dangers polycarbonate plastic bottles.

don't use that little stick to prick the teat, you will ruin the teat if you do. that little plastic stick is just to help you clean the rim if there is milk stuck, it is pretty useless and pointless. i also had many queries when i first started using the chu chu bottles so after much interpretation from my husband's jap speaking staff and phone calls to the wholesalers, i got it all figured out. anyway, the reason why your 4mth old is not really drinking well is because the hole in the teat is a cross and not just one little round hole. this means the baby has to really suck for the milk to come out. i was told there is no need to puncture it bigger with a pin because how much milk the baby gets depends on the baby's sucking strength. is your LO refusing these teats totally or does she just take a bit longer to finish her milk?

after posting the above thread, i talked to my helper about it. well, she does use the little stick to prick the teat every now and then. she said she will use it when she notices that my baby drinks very loudly eg like breathing loudly when he is drinking milk. she asked me if i ever noticed and of course being the daft type i completely notice no diff before and after she pricked it.
i remember the wholesalers specifically said i shouldn't prick with the stick. maybe you should give them a call tomorrow and see what they advise you.

Thanks for the clarification! LO refuses to suck after 1-2 minutes. I ended up using Dr Browns' teat with the bottle! I guess she is used to soft teats and the ease of sucking the milk out without putting in too muich effort.
