USS Ronald Reagan

ORIGINAL POST

We went to the viewing platform at Tsing Ma bridge yesterday (Saturday) hoping to get a good view of the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. No thanks to the smog but thanks to some very powerful binoculars, we did manage to see it although it wasn't very clear. I believe the ships sail off on Sunday. Does anyone know at what time and if they will be sailing through Victoria Harbour?

I just saw your reply and called the Excelsior's concierge. The person I spoke to passed me to someone else and all she could tell me was that the ships were anchored near Tsing Yi, which I knew already but she didn't know anything else about it.

I just spoke to the Ship Liaison Group and all the guy could tell me was that they're departing at 1pm but didn't know if they'd be sailing through Victoria Harbour.

From my window, I have just seen the accompanying guided missile carriers sailing through the Lamma channel.

Thanks Lime. Tell me where you live, I'll come join you by your window as you seem to have a good view. ;)

That's actually the sea route my hubby predicted they'd take. Maybe next time they visit, we might have clean air and a better chance of getting a good view from the Tsing Ma Bridge view point. You never know....

I've just 'googled' Mount Davis and there was something on Vista Mt Davis which says 'all have balconies with great sunset views across the Lamma Channel'. Well, lucky you. I'm near Admiralty. It would have been good for me if they'd passed through Victoria Harbour like the Queen Mary 2 the other day. I watched that one from Queen's Pier.

The aircraft carrier is slowly moving through the channel now. Laden with various aircraft but the visibility is poor now. I never know when these things are passing through - how do you find out?

Well Lime, I knew they were leaving today as it was reported in the papers. Last night and this morning I desperately searched for info on their departure route and time but no luck. Anyway, I then managed to call the Ship Liaison Group (hubby says I can't disclose how I got the number) and the only info he gave me was their departure time.

Next time you need to know about shipping arrivals and departures, look at the Marine Dept website -

Thanks koala48. I did see their website this morning but somehow missed out on the arrivals and departures although I had seen a different looking page consisting only of arrivals. The departure time is listed but not the route or have i missed that?

I believe, after talking to some of the sailors on Sat night, that they can't give out their departure route or where they are headed next due to security reasons.
