Moving to HK in May for 2 years. Anybody can advise on approximate cost of long term membership (1-2 years) at California Fitness or other commercial gyms?
Thanks

I paid $398/month for a one year California platinum membership. Now I'm being offered $180-$260/month for 3+ year commitments. I know people who rounded up a few guys at the office and managed to get a cheaper corporate membership.

180; nice. I bargained a bit and got it (Platinum) for 205/month (3 year, prepaid).

should definitely give Pure Fitness a shot......

interesting. Cheaper than I thought. Haven't checked out Pure Fitness. Does California allow you to use multiple centres or transfers?
tks again

i am paying HKD999/mth for Pure! my colleague got it for HKD700/mth (not even committed for long term) and i already felt ripped off. will be even more pissed off if there are actually lower rates for long term (which i wasnt even told about - they say it's a flat rate).

Yes, the Platinum membership at California includes access to all gyms. Some of the branches get pretty crowded after office hours. Personally I'm a bit turned off by the overabundance of trainers and the constant selling at California. I prefer Seasons and Fitness First (expect up to $200 more than California), but their locations just aren't as convenient.

Rates for 12 months:
Seasons HKD~450 pm
Pure HKD~550 pm
Cali HKD140-180 for Gold/Platinum
Seasons and Pure are my rates (I am a member), Cali are those of friends (I am not a member).

I paid $ 200 a month for 1 year, and continuing to do so at California.

Platinum in Cali you can use overseas as well (if that matters to anyone :)

What are the terms for the $200/month membership at California?
I popped into Physical for a tour today. Was pleasantly surprised to find all the membership plans w/ prices listed on a sheet of paper. It's $328/month for 1 year and you get 24 free specified beauty treatments (?!) or $260/month for 15 months and you get a $2000 Beauty Cash Coupon. Other plans are also available.
Compared to California, the gym probably has more cardio machines and a smaller (but adequate) weight lifting area. Some branches are female only.

How much are people paying for Fitness First?

Haha! Seems like there is a variety of deals going on (as usual). California is unbelievable! I was a member in Bangkok and they really did go from being a classy establishment to the gym that practically everyone was a member of - making it over-crowded and annoying. Will definitely check out the competition.
Best idea I think is to go in knowing the price that YOU want to pay. If you threaten to walk out on the deal based on cost, they will either chase you or not. California will always chase you - their policy is not to let anyone out the door without signing up.

Maverick:
Yes, membership if for all Pure branches. Term is 12 or 24 months (cannot remember). Involved some negotiating and full payment upfront (HKD~550 is a the future value, absolute number is lower) - and there were no freebies (PT sessions, vouchers, etc.)
